I was looking for Scientific American Mind at Barnes & Noble today and came across a good general article on PANDAS in The Autism File ("Covering Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, ADD and other related disorders"). It's written by a mom, Laura Matheos, and would be a good one to show friends, family, school personnel and maybe a pediatrician who's never heard of PANDAS. It lays out all the basics including what an autoimmune disorder is, how PANDAS is diagnosed, Swedo's original criteria plus "secondary" symptoms (emotional lability, separation fears, enuresis, etc), the Cunningham's study, prophylactic antibiotics, prednisone, IVIG, plasmapheresis, the works! She tells her family's story, includes lots of good information and references six different studies/papers.

You can find it at Barnes & Noble, or once they've released their next issue, it should be available online at www.autismfile.com.

Just wanted to bump this up as I think a few might not have seen it yet. Great article to use in communications with family, friends, school, pediatricians not familiar with PANDAS. Just checked and it's not yet available online - I imagine it will be in February.

Yes, I thought was a great article as well. I loved that it acurately covered so many bases yet was easy to read and not overally "sciencey" such that teachers/relatives etc would understand PANDAS.
