wornoutmom Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 Well, the ENT called and says the cultures shows staph infection. Has anyone else run into this? Any thoughts about how staph can affect the brain itself? I would gather that if there is a BBB breach due to PANDAS, the staff would effect things much as strep does, but wondered if anyone has thoughts?
KeithandElizabeth Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 My son's PANDAS journey began with a staph infection on his foot! If I had known at the time where we would be today, I would have done higher doses and longer term antibiotics. Elizabeth
faith Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 wornoutmom what cultures, where were they taken from?

thereishope Posted January 11, 2010 Report Posted January 11, 2010 In addition to Keith and Elizabeth, I know 2 other people in which staph was the original trigger.

Staph is the one that came out positive. Had to say it felt good to call the pediatrician's office to say "I told you so".

The ENT wanted to see what bacteria it was in case a different antibiotic was warranted. I honestly don't think Omnicef is the long-term answer since it (the PANDAS and the sinus symptoms) keeps coming back the minute they take him off of it.

Did you see PANDAS symptoms right away? Do you know how they differentiate between staph and MRSA?
