birthday with sore throat and fever

Today Andrew is 8 years old. Seven years ago he got strep and tics. I remember how scared I was when he started blinking and twitching even in his sleep, taking him to the Dr. and ER in the same day, going through CAT scan and EEG and blood work and so many Dr's that had no explanations. We have dealt with this disorder most of his life and still are searching for something or someone that may hold the answer. Sat. evening he started having sore throat and fever. I started him on 500 mg Amoxicillin yesterday morning. His fever is better this morning but sore throat remains. Right away Sat. night he started in with finger and toe cracking. He always gets tics with fevers. He is so calm and behaved while he is sick though. I pray this goes away fast and does not lead to another episode. He has been better lately with the tics and compulsions and moods. Darn winter weather and sickness. I pray 2010 will be a better year for us. 2009 and his 7th year was the hardest one yet.

Michele - I am so sorry about what you are going through! I pray 2010 is a better year for you and your family and for all the families dealing with the ups and downs of PANDAS.

 

I found it interesting that your baby was diagnosed with strep.... I have 5 kids and when I would take them to the dr for sore throats when little the first 3 were NEVER swabbed or tested for strep... my now 2 year old was diagnosed with strep last spring (he was still 1 at the time) ... before this they always said that kids under 3 never got strep! (throat clear) I BEG to differ.... I now really think my DS9 and daughter (I suspect pandas 7) had strep wen little... they have a history once they started swabbing!

I just noticed that you are in Ncanton... my family lived in canton before moving to Wadsworth and our ped is still in massillon... who is your ped and do they recognize PANDAS?

Hi, Michele. Happy Birthday to Andrew!

 

Did you ask the doctor for anything stronger than Amoxicillan? Is the 500 mg his entire dosing for he day?

 

Maybe it's the "birthday curse" some of us have had and he will be better tomorow. I know it's wishful thinking, but one can hope.
