melanie Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 Im thinking humm if the antibiotics are really working the way they should for infections shouldnt his skin be clear.I know someone posted that clindimicin is used for acne treatment long term.dannys on 150 x 2 and his skin isn't clear hes 15 so I expect some acne but sometimes its good (his skin) sometimes its not .I always notice its worse when hes not feeling well..Im just asking.Should I ask Dr T to up his dosage? Melanie
MichaelTampa Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 My understanding is that acne results from the body getting rid of toxins from the skin. It seems that could have many causes, and just one of the many could be antibiotics themselves, if the body is having a difficult time processing them through the liver and whatever else. Michael
thereishope Posted January 5, 2010 Report Posted January 5, 2010 I went on antibiotics for acne when I was a late teen. Acne will worsen for the first three months of antibiotic treatment and then slowly clear. It takes that long to get all the infection and toxins out. The antibiotic itself may make a difference too. Usually, dermatologists give tetracycline for acne (I had a reaction to it and never made it to month 3) and EAMom posted a bit ago that Zith is suppose to be good for acne.

Hes not using the clindimicin for acne,But I was thinking ,if its a strong enough dosage to keep him strep free then wouldn't it be to keep him clear. His pimples aren't bad at all right now but when his throat hurts or his ear huts or his glands are swollen it seems to get worse.I think his right ear is bothering him so we will see this week.Still waiting for the IV hopefully its soon!!!
thereishope Posted January 6, 2010 Report Posted January 6, 2010 Yeah, I remembered he's not taking it for acne, but, I also am not sure what that particualr ab does to the skin. When I am sick, I will still have a few breakouts. That connection isn't uncommon. Nor would I be concerned about it even if he is on meds. I don't think that necessarily means it's not doing it's job with infection and strep. If by any chance the breakouts bother him or he is self conscious, make sure he drinks more water and you can get clear topical meds to apply.
