Guest Guest_efgh
ALL Since my son is allergic to milk, I have a tough time giving him breakfast. For those with the same problem, what do you generally give your kids for breakfast.. I always think cereal with milk is most ideal .. Any suggestions welcome. thanks
Ronnas
Lots of fruit (stawberries, watermelon, apples, oranges etc.) Banana boat...put peanut butter on a banana...there are many variations of this. You could even do a "banana split" with nutrawhip which is dairy free...add fruit, granola, pinapple, a bit of chocolate...anything you can think of...you can also use some soy ice cream...it actually does taste like the real stuff. My son does not like to drink soy or rice milk but he does not mind it on his cereal. Kurt likes rice crispies with bananas or blueberries on top. peanut butter and jam sandwiches My son is beginning to tolerate eggs a bit now so he really likes a scrambled egg sandwich (scrambled eggs between two pieces of toast). sometimes we have left overs such as a piece of chicken from the night before along with some fruit and toast. I find breakfast the easiest...I find lunch a bigger challenge! Ronna
Guest Guest
Fruit is my son's biggest breakfast food group. Then would come eggs or french toast using zuccinni bread. My boy can't have milk, soy, corn, gluten, grain, rice, etc products. But as he gets older and his tastes develop we are hoping he will eat meat for breakfast as well. Good luck. Guest Jeff
How about an Eggo? Oatmeal? Cream of Wheat? Bagels with cream cheese? Could he eat any of those? Jeff
Claire
I just read in a braintalk post (no source quoted) that 70% of the standard American diet is dairy and wheat. Since my son can't have dairy or wheat....oh well. Or eggs, which I agree are nice for breakfast occasionally. He was starting to have soy milk with cereal but no more. So he gets: Van's wheat-free toasted waffles. I hate that there is virtually no protein in them though--I consider protein a key part of a nourishing breakfast when you send them off for the day. We put on butter and a tiny bit of syrup with Malitol (from Whole Foods, nothing artificial) so he doesn't go away loaded with syrup. Whole Food's HempPlus granola without milk (containing none of the things his is allergic to that are typically in granola, e.g. almonds, sesame, honey, milk/whey, or wheat). Smoothies. I don't like sending him off with a fruit only (high sugar, no fats or protein breakfast), especially with wheat issues. So on weekends when there is no rush, we do berry smoothies, with wather and "Gotein" (goat milk protein powder) and stevia. Gotein is the best-tasting protein powder I have ever tasted--this has become a true treat in our home. Blueberry/raspberry or Strawberry/raspberry. Raspberry is a minor addition (maybe 1/3 the amount of the other fruit) but gives it a bite. I am stuck after this, like "Guest" (I assume someone we know who forgot to sign in?) I hope that later he will consider some meat. Whole Foods does have beef nitrate-free bacon that might add to something else, but my son isn't big on bacon and it isn't a top choice anyway. Claire ps, Now that I can't have dairy at all (even cheese and butter), and barley--in most breads, breakfast is my own toughest meal. I watch my cholesterol, so eggs daily doesn't feel right, though I do have them 2x/week.
Guest Frank Sm1th
efgh- How far does this milk allergy go? Would LactAid be ok? Would cheese be ok? There are so many kinds of cheese, breakfast might never be boring. Frank
Andy
Hi Claire, it was I who forgot to log in and responded to this thead as guest. I was wondering about the hemp products. Being in a house hold that doesn't have anything but an unopened bottle of wine, I have concerns about hemp other then as a use as rope or clothing. Will this product ever show up in the blood stream as the drug or have any drug like effects? I hate to sound stupid on this hemp issue but... sgrunin
Lactaid definitely good and dairy ease what about soy??????? actually does not taste that bad. I buy soy chocolate milk because of the protein..lots of protein. It IS really amazing how many foods have dairy.. Take chocolate..I love m & m's and chocolate has milk and milkfat AND to top it off it has Lactose. I find a lot of humor in that....They really want to take care of those lactose intolerant people so they add as many milk products they can think of..ha ha Scott
Claire
Scott, I wanted to tell you about another TS/tics board that many of us also post on (perhaps you do also already?). Mostly we have the same screen names, so you will recognize us. http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumd...splay.php?f=253 There are several parents with teens with TS and a range of trials and tribulations there and could benefit from your experience. It seems like a bigger board, while this one feels smaller to me, so I mostly stay here. Claire ps Bye everyone, I fly away on vacation for about a week starting tomorrow!
