mama2alex Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Alex finished IVIG a week ago Thursday and had a screaming headache afteward. Tylenol helped and the headache was gone after a couple of days, but yesterday afternoon it started to come back (although not as bad). It doesn't seem like Tylenol is completely getting rid of it (or Motrin). Also, he woke up with a temp of 99.5 this morning, which is not a huge deal, but usually in the morning it's closer to 97.5. He also had night terrors last night, which he's never had - just absolutely frantic for an hour and then lots of trouble getting back to sleep once he did finally calm down. Have others seen something like this a week or so after IVIG?
sf_mom Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Corsa often complains of headaches. We have been giving him 200 m.g. Advil or Motrin in the morning and 200 m.g. at about dinner time daily for the last couple of weeks. We hope to cut that back to just 200 m.g. daily as he does better with the headaches. I think its all part of the healing... I sure pray Alex is doing better. BUT, if it continues you might consider a steroid burst.
Buster Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 Yes, in our dd's case we had 2 weeks of significant exacerbations post IVIG -- we saw a lot of old behavior briefly. It was like watching the last year on fast reverse. On day 3 she ran a low-grade fever (99.5-100). This passed in 2 days. ShaesMom Posted December 18, 2009 Report Posted December 18, 2009 One of the side effects of IVIG can be migraines especially if you were someone who was more prone to them before IVIG or if there is a family history of migraines. We got an rx for Imitrex Nasel spray to help with the migraines. Interestingly, she has IVIG starting at 9:00 am everytime and like clockwork on the second day post between 3-5 pm she gets a headache and minor fever. All the woman in my family have a history of migraines. Mine were extremely bad when I was a child and tapered off after having children.
smartyjones Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 just curious - has anyone who is seeing a pandas neurologist asked if/about a migraine-pandas connection? not for ivig, but pandas in general? it seems to come up quite a bit. possibly just both neurological issues or more than that?
coco Posted December 19, 2009 Report Posted December 19, 2009 My dd had a horrible headache exactly one week to the day post ivig, bad nausea as well. Lasted about 6 hours. This only occurred after the two-day IVIG with Dr. K. Monthly doses (one-day) give her no side effects. Doctor always tells me to keep her well-hydrated before and after IVIG, and I try to comply.
