Tattoomom
With all the talk about dilated pupils being a sign of PANDAS, it really hit me... my ds's pupils are always big! Sometimes they're HUGE and cover up his iris. I took this pic of him today. I'd say this is about as small as they get unless he's in direct sunlight and then they constrict. Do you think his eyes look dilated? Or is this normal? P.S. Doesn't he have the prettiest baby blues? His eyes are like crystals!
Suzan
They look big to me and very similar to my kids. It's hard to say in a picture not knowing how bright or dark the room is, but if they are always big like that, I'd say it's related. I know you will be checking out everyone's eyes from now on. I know I do! And yes, his eyes are beautiful!! Susan
ajcire
Ah, I see my pupil obsession is contagious I keep checking... but ack, I think mine look like that too now. Yes, my kids eyes look just like your son's... ok, well maybe not just... ha... we have not been blessed with beautiful baby blues here......blue eyes in our family would raise definite suspicion. bubbasmom
My daughter that DOES NOT have PANDAS has huge pupils. She too has those beautiful blue eyes, so maybe its something more like that? My son that DOES have it, his eyes only dialate when he's in an 'episode' not all of the time. Tattoomom
I checked his eyes in direct sunlight and his pupils got smaller. But then they go back to this size or a tad larger when indoors. When your kids pupils are large, are they large even in bright light?
Worried_Dad
Does anybody think the pupil dilation might also cause the "light sensitivity" that many PANDAS kids develop? Since this whole thing started, out son has become incredibly sensitive to light: avoids sunlight, always closes blinds. We had to put black curtains on his bedroom window so he could sleep at night. coco
Worried Dad - Yes, I think that pupil dilation is related to sensitivity to light. My dd has complained of "too much brightness" on the bus, or outside on the playground (esp with snow) and direct sunlight on the porch, etc. She notices the brightness when my dh and I never even notice. It seems to come and go, but she is definitely talking more about it in the past several weeks.
