dcmom Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Julia did really well with her steroid burst. I have to check the calendar, but she has been off them for a week or two and things have been really good. Yestarday morning she resisted a tiny bit about going to school- a bad sign. This morning she lost a baby tooth, and then had a much harder time going to school. She loves school, and only has issues when in an episode. This is not a good sign. I thought I remembered seeing someone had issues with losing baby teeth. Any thoughts?
dut Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Hello Yeh, when our dd lost her 1st baby tooth 3-4 hours later she had a tummy ache and by the next morning we were seing low level symptoms. We did a course of abx and 3-4 days, maybe as long as a week later but super minor by then, symptoms went away. It may have been coincidence I dunno but when she lost her last tooth (only her 2nd) I gave her proph abx dose early just in case and we didn't have a problem that time. Hope this is just a blip for you....
thereishope Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 My son lost 4 baby teeth during PANDAS exacerbations and I did not notice any increase in symptoms. Was she okay with losing her tooth, did it hurt her? When my son lost his first tooth he was nervous because he did not want to give his tooth to the tooth fairy. When we told him he didn't have to, he could keep it, everything was well. He actually has all 4 of his baby teeth on his dresser in a bowl. I can see that as being associated with hoarding, but even now that he's well, I think it's just him not wanting to part with them.

We did not have a problem with either one. However, my daughter had the same issues with the tooth fairy taking her teeth. Both times she wrote a note that read, "Dear Tooth Fairy, please do not take my tooth." She was alright with it when she knew that she could keep her teeth.
dcmom Posted December 10, 2009 Author Report Posted December 10, 2009 Julia has so far not put her other baby teeth under the pillow. Initially I thought it was pandas related, and thought it was so sad. Then a friend of mine with 2 non pandas kids, told me her kids felt the same way. Whew- maybe it's common Will report back about visit with Dr L today....
thereishope Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 In place of the tooth fairy, we have a tooth party. He gets to pick out cupcakes or cookies from the store for dessert for the family.
FallingApart Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Good Lord! Something new every day! As DD just turned 4 she hasn't lost any teeth yet. But of course I will be scared to death of this happening. Question: if you are already on proph abx, how do you increase the dose accordingly when the tooth is close to coming out? Do you double the dose for a while or do something else? I hope this is only a day long blip for Julia.
dcmom Posted December 11, 2009 Author Report Posted December 11, 2009 A bit of good news for now. Took both girls to see Dr L yestarday. She thought they both looked great. She gave me a month of steroids for each. Julia had a great afternoon, and then a great morning- so at this point am holding off on the steroids. Maybe she just had a little one/two day blip because of the tooth, or exposure to something at school. Caroline will start steroids tomorrow. I was so down in the dumps yestarday, but now feel much more positive. I totally felt (as I think mommd said) that Dr L is in this with us for the long haul. She feels each kid is very different, and we just need to do what works at this point. I am hopeful that we can at least get through the holiday season....

bronxmom2 Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I'm so glad you're feeling better. Yes, Dr. L is definitely there for the long haul.
thereishope Posted December 11, 2009 Report Posted December 11, 2009 I'm glad things are well! I think everyone is stressed about the holidays and what they will be like. Last year we were still in recovery mode and walking on pins and needles so the other kids would have a good Christmas too. Now, I am so fearful that something will sneak up on us and take away a good holiday. Actually, all of our holidays last year were with PANDAS. I sure hope this is a good one for all of us!
