bmom Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 My son has a play coming up where he is the lead. I am proud of him, but also scared that he may start ticcing due to anxiety and the flashing lights. I normally give him 200 mg. of Advil daily, but would like to up it that day. He has a morning and afternoon performance. He weighs almost 100 lbs and is 11. What amount can I give him in the morning and at lunch? Would 400 mg. at 8 am and 400 mg at 12 am be ok? EAMom or Buster? Thoughts anyone?
thereishope Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 On my liquid children's Motrin dosing table, it says 72-95 lbs takes 3tsp. That equals 300mg. When trying to figure out when to give it, remember it can be taken every 6 hours. Give it at least 1/2 hour to kick in and with my son it began wearing off around the 5 hour mark.
brooke Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 I confess to having given my son, 8 years old and 95 lbs, 400 Advil liquid gels. Does not seem to bother him. Really like the Liquid gels the best.
thereishope Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 My dr did say the bottles are conservative in dosing. For my son, the dr told me a higher dosage than on the bottle.
EAMom Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 Would 400 mg. at 8 am and 400 mg at 12 am be ok? Yes...that sounds like a very safe dose short term dose for his weight. I agree that the bottles are conservative in dosing. Make sure he takes the advil with some food. Long term: If you want to give him 200mg 2x daily I think that would be fine long term...since the immunologist told us 200mg/day is safe long term (but our dd is much smaller, 54 pounds).
