peglem Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Been thinking about this for a week or so. Then read a post on an LDN forum about a 6yo that sounds just like my daughter- abnormal PANDAS + abnormal EEG. 2 years ago, my daughter had an 8 day Video EEG. No seizures were detected but a lot of abnormal spiking. It occurs to me that this may have been caused by PANDAS, ie..the antibodies interfering w/ neurotransmission. So, have any of you had EEGs, and if so, what did they show?
FallingApart Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 We had one done just about a month ago. It was done for insurance reasons also. We wanted to show what she looked like pre PEX and post PEX. EEG was "fine". The neuro who did it for us thinks PANDAS is a farce and all we were told was that the "EEG was fine" So I don't know if there were any spikes or not.
Suzan Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 My 7 yr old has had three EEG's, two 1 hr and one 48 hr video EEG. This is because she has had seizures like absent seizures since at least 3 years old. When she was 4 we realized what they were and started trying to find a way to medicate her. The medicine didn't work so that's when she got the 48 hr VEEG. Finally they got the meds right and I didn't see any more seizures. She was having 100's of them a day but I only saw the longer ones, 10-15 a day. Then she went gluten free and after 6 months, she had a normal EEG and she is now off medication. I assume her seizure activity is unrelated to PANDAS except for the fact that Celiac and PANDAS may be co-morbid conditions. We don't know if she has celiac but it's a good possibility. Susan
pixiesmommy Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 Pixie has had 3. They thought they saw something on the first one, which was with a strobe for like 10 minutes in the office, so we did a 48 hr one that showed, "increased possibility for future potential seizures" which was translated to us in layman's terms as, "there is nothing there- don't worry." Those were a year and a half ago. We did another one a couple of months ago when she was having bedwetting issues and "zoning out" again and it was "fine."
dabel Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 My 12 yo son had two of them. One short one in the office setting and one 48 hour one. He was not doing well at the time at all and they both came back normal. My 10 yo who is not diagnosed with PANDAS yet but had quite the episode at 3 - lost his speech, total change in personality, aggression, headaches, etc. Other PANDA mom's have told me that it sure sounds like PANDAS. I am having him checked too. Anyway, he does have evidence of bilateral brain damage - this showed in his speech and his motor skills. DeAnn

mom md Posted November 13, 2009 Report Posted November 13, 2009 We had a sleep deprived EEG which was normal.
