Hello,

I am so thankful that I found this website. PANDAS is all very brand new to me and I am feeling very overwhelmed. I am searching for a doctor in or near Richmond, Va. I have read about Dr. Latimer, however, I am hesitant to contact her due to the postings about not being able to reach her by phone or email. Is there another doctor in the area that anyone has had first hand experience with in treating PANDAS. I did see Dr. Julie Fortner and Dr. Koch listed on this site, however, I didnt read anywhere that anyone was actually being treated by these doctors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Michele, I'm also here in Richmond. We've seen Dr. Fortner. We thought she was very nice, but she is only a part time pediatrician. We ultimately decided to travel to see Dr. Latimer and are staying with our original pediatrician. Feel free to send me a message, and I can give you more information about our experience. Noelle

Hello Michele,

If I were you, I would not hesitate to call Dr Latimer and make an appointment...you will be pleased, as she is experienced with pandas patients. Most of our issues with her office have been encountered remotely, while trying to arrange phone calls and get emails and such. Being in Richmond, you are close to her. We saw her beginning of this month and drove from Raleigh, NC area...was worth the trip and have a follow-up appt, mid December. We could not find anyone in NC that "believes" in pandas or has the experience and treatment options she has. Hopefully, there will be someone in the future.

Hi, we live in California and began our relationship with Dr. Kovacevic (www.webpediatrics.com) over the phone (he is in Chigago). Our pediatrition did not really know anything about PANDAS, but was willling to read info I gave him and then follow Dr. K's lead with regard to perscirptions etc. We also were able to work with a doctor at children's hosptial LA to get IVIG even though it was understood that our "main" doctor was in Chicago.

FYI- the reason I think things went so smoothly at Childrens Hospital was that we saw a doctor there who worked in the out-patient Immunology/alergy clinic. He was not willing to "diagnose" PANDAS for us but explained that their department was mainly made up of technitions who followed the lead of other doctors and implimented IVIG protocols.

Hope that helps some.

Best, Kari
