bronxmom2 Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 Does anyone know if the two-day PANDAS IVIG works better if the kid is relatively healthy at the time? My ds is just finishing his 30-day course of steroids (which worked for about the first week and wore away as we tapered down) and now I am paranoid because I know his immune system is even more vulnerable than usual. In fact I was keeping him out of school (which was great!) but they made me bring him back. He already has a cold. Now we are scheduled for IVIG in a week and a half... does IVIG work better if the kid's not sick?
sf_mom Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 When my younger son had Kawasaki's he was extremely ill. I think he had been in the hospital for 4 days with a fever of 103+ before IVIG was administered and he bounced back within 24 hours. I would have never believed the change in him had I not seen it with my own eyes. It literally saved his life. IVIG is often used with very, very, very, ill children. You have nothing to fear if he is ill at time of treatment. -Wendy
ShaesMom Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I believe Wendy is correct-it shouldn't matter if your child is sick when he gets the IVIG. It isn't even a question they ask when we go in for our monthly infusions.
