Thanks, you got the prednisone from Dr. L, right? She thinks that might be all you need for now?

I'm trying to decide whether to try the prednisone or push for IVIG/PEX from the start.

Since raging is one of my son's issues.. the prednisone scares me a little.

We have a phone consult with Dr. Latimer this week. My daughter is still on 100mg of azith daily.

Every family has to weigh the risks vs. benefits of any medication or treatment. In our daughter's case, she seemed to be getting worse, and Dr. Latimer felt the prednisone was the way to go--we relied heavliy on her judgement.

Also, we didn't want to wait for treatment, and prednisone was something that we could try right away.

We are currently tapering down from a steroid burst. It seems to have helped, but I am keeping my fingers crossed.

My dd has rages with pandas. The steroids did not cause/increase the rages, rather seemed to cause an overall irritability (at least I am hoping it is the steroids). She would still get mad at stuff- but not completely fly off the handle- she could control herself. I am wondering how long term the positive effects will last. She was exposed to strep last week- which did cause a small flare of issues- but I am thinking that has cleared now.

I would consider trying the steroids, I am sure if it doesn't go well, you could taper him off immediately, rather than run the course. I think it might be a jumpstart to healing even if you do IVIG next? Def consult Dr L!
