ShaesMom Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Hi - Meg's Endoscope test came back & she does not show any signs of damaged villi - so not Celiac. She does however, have numerous Peptic Ulcers. So she actually has a stomach ache & reflux - it's not just OCD/anxiety. They gave her Previcid. Any thoughts on this one? I would swear that she does not have a stomach ache unless she is in a PANDAS episode. Do they go together? Susan (Meg's mom) My dd is going to have an Endoscopy & Colonoscopy on the 21st to explore her GI issues. I'll let you know if they find Peptic Ulcers.
colleenrn Posted September 2, 2009 Report Posted September 2, 2009 Kim- How did you rule out PANDAS? Kids with PANDAS can have an increase in tics or any other associated behaviors with any bacteria, not just strep. Since H. pylori is a bacteria, I would be highly suspicious. When was the last time she was on any antibiotic? You mentioned complaints of a sorer throat? have yu gotten a throat culture? Colleen
Megs_Mom Posted September 4, 2009 Author Report Posted September 4, 2009 Finally reached the nurse this am. The H. Pylori test was negative. So she doesn't have that, and she does not use NSAIDS or smoke . I asked if they tested the biopsies for strep - answer was no. Bummer. Don't see doing the test again, too big of a deal. ShaesMom - can you see if they will test biospy fpr strep. I don't even know if that is possible. Would be interesting to know. Most research studies show that NSAIDs and H. Pylori are causes of Peptic Ulcers. Nurse just says that her stomach acid is high (no kidding), but no indication of why. I don't really buy the stress argument (I just think there are to many, and the stomach pain starts immediately with the OCD symptoms.) I was fascinated by the study Kim sent over. We don't have the CamKasII results back from Cunninham (anyone heard when?), so I guess if she is low, I'll attribute to stress, but if high I'll attribute to PANDAS symptom. Megs_Mom Posted September 4, 2009 Author Report Posted September 4, 2009 dcmom just sent me this link to Dr. K's website - under the teen section. This is how it reads: Initial symptom (present at one time in almost every patient): chronic, not fully explained and/or diagnosed GI ("stomach") complaint (common diagnosis attached to the complaint: GE reflux). Non-specific epigastric or abdominal pains, "heart burn", "fullness" following a meal, occasional morning nausea and/or vomiting are common. Few patients report loose stools but no clinical picture of diarrhea has been elicited. GI symptoms may disappear at the onset of psychiatric symptoms, or they may continue but with decreased intensity or remain unchanged. That would describe Meg, age 8, exactly (well, nausea, but no vomiting). Her symptoms continue until the OCD is gone.
ShaesMom Posted September 4, 2009 Report Posted September 4, 2009 Susan-I will definitely ask about the strep in the biopsies as long as I remember too! My brain is over 40 and doesn't always remember everything until after the fact! Finally reached the nurse this am. The H. Pylori test was negative.
