Suzan
She's getting sick again. This is where I get confused. I know I've posted about this before but she's on 125 mg of zith right now. She was on 250 mg for a couple of weeks and I've reduced it maybe 1 1/2 weeks ago. I know moving it back up won't get rid of her virus, if she's got a virus. But the antibiotics could protect her brain from the pandas symptoms? Is that right? Why do I still feel so confused about what the antibiotics are doing? She's creeping back to falling down and hurting herself a lot, pain coming back, emotional outbursts, indecision, can't think. She says her throat hurts, head hurts and she's got a few canker sores. She's worried and upset tonight that her future husband will want more people at her wedding than just me. BLINK...she's 7. Stuff like that. colleenrn
When I have dropped my kids (including my 6 yo who only weighs 43 lb.) to 125 mg of Zith instead of 250mg, their PANDAS symptoms most definitely increase. When they had chicken pox lthis past winter, I stopped the Zith for less than a week. They were home with NO exposure to strep. Their symptoms greatly increased. Maybe that is what is happening with your daughter? OR maybe she has a virus and is having an increase in symptoms b/c of that? It is SO hard to figure these things out! Hang in there! peglem
Zithromax has anti inflammatory properties, so while it does not kill viruses, it will still treat inflammation, whatever the cause.
Suzan
Thanks you two. That does help. I think I will up her dose for a week at least and see if that helps her. Susan
thereishope
If she says her throat hurts and her behaviors are worsening, have you thought about a strep test? Even if up the meds, which may kill an infection if it is present, it always good to know if your child, in fact, has strep. She's getting sick again. This is where I get confused. greeneyes48072
I know there are a lot of new faces here, so just in case you didn't know, a lot of these kids have a flare up ANY time the immune system is stimulated, meaning any bacteria, any virus and other things including immunizations and vaccinations. My son would sometime have his worst flare ups after swimming at a public indoor pool, I'm guessing due to high levels of chlorine or other chemicals.
