ShaesMom Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 If anyone is interested, you can order a free IVIG play kit from Baxter (they make Gammagard). They also have some great info on IVIG on their website. https://webforms.baxterbioscience.com/immune/order.jspa
NancyD Posted July 21, 2009 Report Posted July 21, 2009 GREAT resource...the materials look good. Thanks for sharing, Sam! NancyD Posted July 31, 2009 Report Posted July 31, 2009 For any parents of young children who plan to do IVIG I highly recommend getting this therapeutic play kit. It's really good. You can also order a wellness organizer from this link to keep all your medical records. Baxter did an excellent job. And it's free! I'm going to donate my kit to the infusion center at Children's Hospital Boston and suggest that they give this link to all parents of newly diagnosed children. ShaesMom Posted July 31, 2009 Author Report Posted July 31, 2009 We finally received our kit yesterday and is awesome! The kids played with it all afternoon.
michele Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 We got our kit Sat. and it was very exciting. The animal is really soft and cool. This is a great idea. We finally received our kit yesterday and is awesome! The kids played with it all afternoon.
ShaesMom Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Since it sounds like more kids will be doing monthly IVIG, I wanted to remind every one that you can get a free IVIG playkit from Baxter manufacturing. It comes with a stuffed blue bear and all the medical supplies for IVIG. It is really cute and my kids love playing with it. Shae has even taken it with her to her IVIG appts. Sam
dcmom Posted October 8, 2009 Report Posted October 8, 2009 I wanted to bump this post up. Thank you to Shaesmom for the recommendation! I just gave my dd, age 6, her free IVIG play kit, with the blue stuffed animal, to prepare her for plasma pheresis. She loves it. She has been carrying it around for 2 days, giving it (and all her other stuffed animals) IVs. She even brought it into show and tell today! I think it will help desensitize her to the process when we are in the hospital. I highly recommend it to anyone with a child around 12 (her 9 year old sister loves it also) and under, going for IVIG (or PEX)! Eileen
mama2alex Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Thanks for bumping this up! I just ordered ours - I hope they can get it to me in less than two weeks. We are scheduled for IVIG in Chicago on the 22nd and 23rd. Does it include any stickers? My son has an aversion to stickers, so if it does, I'd like to take them out before he looks at it.

We just got ours today, I'm not sure how many days, but it was less than a week since I ordered it. Its very cool! I'm touched that people are kind enough to do this for kids who are facing this procedure...I'm scared, can't imagine how my daughter must feel. Anyway, I'm going to wait til my daughter goes to bed to look through it carefully (she hasn't seen it yet), so I don't know if it has stickers...but I think you'll want to look through it 1st anyway- lots of materials in there.
dcmom Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 Look through the kit first. It contains stickers, two rolls of sticky medical tape, and bandaids. It also has some booklets and parent info.
bubbasmom Posted October 9, 2009 Report Posted October 9, 2009 I'm confused - when kids have IVIG, do they have to CONTINUE having mulitple treatments? At that price, how can people do that? Since it sounds like more kids will be doing monthly IVIG, I wanted to remind every one that you can get a free IVIG playkit from Baxter manufacturing. It comes with a stuffed blue bear and all the medical supplies for IVIG. It is really cute and my kids love playing with it. Shae has even taken it with her to her IVIG appts. Sam

Sam If the child has an immune deficiency, its possible to get insurance to pay for monthly IVIG, not for PANDAS specifically, but to correct the deficiency.
peglem Posted April 1, 2010 Report Posted April 1, 2010 I wanted to bump this up so newbies could see it. This kit helped my daughter so much! She is 15 and non verbal and so, so afraid of needles- we've been refused service at labs when she needed blood drawn. When I 1st used the play kit w/ her, she RAN when she saw the play needle, then just sort of watched from the corner of her eye. But by the time her IVIG was scheduled, we were IV-ing every stuffed toy in the house (I didn't realize there were so many ), and SHE was putting the "needle" in. When she had her IVIG she knew exactly what was going on, what would happen and cooperated so well!

peglem Posted June 26, 2010 Report Posted June 26, 2010 Thought I would bump this up for the newer crowd facing IVIG. This kit is wonderful- my daughter and I IV'd every stuffed toy in the house and it really helped her handle the procedure!
