IVIG dose

Hi,

 

I noticed that Sue Swedo used an IVIG dose of 2 grams/kg but Dr. K. uses 1.5 grams/kg. Does any one have any thoughts on that? Did anyone get a higher dose from Dr. K (eg. Swedo's dose).

 

I was also wondering if there was any downside to using the higher dose (aside from the cost of buying more IVIG). I'm just wondering if the higher dose has an increased chance of sucess with one 2 day IVIG course (vs. needing to repeat months later).

 

Any input or comments would be appreciated!

Since Gaby had a pretty good response to the IVIG initially, but afterwards did not recover as well as would be expected, Dr. K felt that she might have been better off having received the higher dose of 2g/kg vs. the 1/5g that she received. If I were a parent going into this for the first time, I would definitely want the 2g rather than risking having to repeat this. Pat

Hi Pat,

 

Glad to hear that Gabby is doing better. Also thanks for the input on the amount of IVIG. We are in the process of setting the date for our son to have it done at the end of May.

 

I pray that Gabby has continued success.

We used Dr. K's protocol and dosing with my dd who was age 7 when she got IVIg.
