faith
Hi Kizza, There is nothing to be worried about in relation to the appt. They will just take your med history and then probably the neuro's assistant will talk to you about your symptoms and the history and duration of those symptoms what your concerns are. If you are going to have any tests, they may do a routine EEG which is just putting some wires taped to your head and you lay down still and they see if there is any abnormal activity in the brain. I really don't think they will do anything else, it will just be asking if you think your symptoms bother you enough to try a medication. I don't know if you are looking to go down that route. Many of us parents here just use the neuro as a first step, but the other treatments that we look into are not really from the neurologist for they do not offer alternative treatments. The rest we have to find on our own or with the help of a Dan (autism doctor) doctor or naturopathic doctor. Let us know how it goes. myrose
Yes that is pretty much what happened at our first appointment. There was some discharge in the EEG, so a 24 hour one was then requested followed by an MRI. Nothing to be worried about. OH! He did order blood work....to check amino acids, titer levels, aso dnase, and I think that was it.... Maybe you will get some answers. But remember there is no "TEST" to confirm Tourettes. Its just based on history, symptoms and how long. So, I guess all neurologists have to think the same in order for all of them to give the same diagnosis.....this is only my opinion...but I don't like that part of it. There are other reasons for tics and all that accompanies it so if something does not make sense to you or you feel uncomfortable with any diagnosis given....I urge you to always get a second opinion. Just don't settle for something you do not understand. Hope I explained that the way I intended to..... Goodluck to you....I did not know your history, but you are at the right place for help in understanding what its all about.
