df77
Went to the doctor several years ago regarding my TS and he ordered some routine blood tests. Turned out I have a high ANA (anti nuclear antibody) level to go along with my TS. My doctors could not attribute any specific cause to the elevated levels. I was told that this basically means that my immune system is very active now or has been very active in the past. I have read several of the posts suggesting a link between TS and the immune system. I can't help but wonder if there is a correlation between my high ANA level and my TS. I suppose it could be the result of a previous infection, viral or otherwise. Does anybody else have similar results? Any data on this relationship between ANA and TS? Where to go from here? Perhaps there are other antibodies to test for that would lend clues? Thanks, DF
kim
df77, This article will give you a lot of clickable links to reseach in relationship to sydenham chorea, PANDAS, tourettes. http://www.medlink.com/medlinkcontent.asp I know ANA have been found in some of these studies but were not necessarily conclusive as they are found in people without these conditions also. Do you have a family history of any other types of autoimmune conditions? Do you remember any particular illness that the onset of your TS was associated with? You might want to post your question on the PANDAS forum here too. Some people with a lot of knowledge there on suspected immune involvement. http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showforum=
