Hi there,

Please help me! my vibrant 9 yo daughter has had TS for 2 yrs but very mild- did not require any meds, barely noticeable but she has had a horrible excerbation 4 wks ago with a bad neck tic. it is very disturbing to her, she feels she has to crack her neck. I am concerned she will hurt her neck+spine. She also has seasonal allergies. The pollen season here in NYC had been really bad. She is on a slew of meds including anti-histamines, singulair and now inhaled steroids because she is wheezing. I would like to avoid medication. Does anyone know a good alternative or integrative doctor who treats kids and allergies in NYC? Any other suggestions for the tics? I did start Magnesium+ Epsom Salts with improvement but was wondering what else I should have in my arsenal in case it flares up? Thank you all! this is such an amazing forum-God Bless.

I live way across the country from you but I wanted to suggest chiropractic care for the neck tic. It might give her some relief. Also, a good massage for both of you might be in order!

I'm sure you'll get some great advice here!

Google Singulair and tics and see what other parents have said. When I took my son off of them a year ago, his throat clearing tic went away. I just came to the board because it seems like they have started again which suspect to be the vitamins he is on but do google and see what you find.

Hi Sunshine9 and welcome,

Do you feel the pollen season as you mention in NY has something to do with the increase in tics. I am in NY, but really do not deal with allergies of that kind. But I am interested if you think the pollen is suspect here. Do the meds she takes for allergies help the tics any? Does she do any blinkiing, and has that increased with the pollen season? I'm curious as that is my son's increase last month, but I am not aware that he has any "real" type allergy symptoms other than tics. How do you treat those types of allergies anyway?

Thanks

Faith

Hi Faith,

I am presuming that allergies are the trigger because she started 2 yrs ago with eye blinking in March-had her tested she is allergis to trees, grass and ragweed + cats big time. Lat spring we were OK because I started preventive treatment sApril 1st, This year I tried starting the meds April 15th and avoided singulair. Then she started with the neck tic. The tic is almost gone now because I gave her Mg?ca/Zn/Vit C but she has a nasty deep cough with congestion and mild asthma- she is on Allegra (non-sedating anti-histamine), Singulair and today Inhaled Steroids (Pulmicort)-if you suspect allergies as atrigger for tics, take your son to a pediatric allergist for testing. I am trying to find a good on ein NYC but this has proven to be tough. Good luck!
