emma1
I am still trying to improve our diets here, and would like to start juicing. I am trying to balance nutrition and taste (not much nutrition if it all just sits in the glass!). If anyone has any good recipes or ideas, please (please!) let me know. I tried a vegetable mix, and not even I could drink it.
faith
Emma, Carrot is usually a good base for most juice drinks for it has a sweet taste. Best one for kids is carrot/apple, then you can put in small amounts of another vegetable (such as a small piece of fresh beet, broccoli flower, or small bunch of spinach) and the strong taste of that should be pretty well masked. For a glass, just use small amounts of the fruits and veg so as not to waste. Pieces of pineapple and melons are good to mask green veggies too. I wouldn't use green veggies alone, always combine with carrot and/or apple because it is too strong and will burn the throat going down. Also, cucumber juice is terrible, in my opinion. They say it is good to water down some of the juices, but I think it tastes bad that way, so I'd rather just drink a little water before and after the juice. They also say you should swirl the juice around in your mouth before swallowing to get the digestive juices to mix with it before it goes down......Get the feeling I've done alot of juicing in my day?! Yea, but not really for my son, he just drinks a little when I get the bug to make some. And then I stop for a while...why?....cause the machine is a pain to clean! You could probably find some good juicing books in the library or some recipes on-line. Good luck! Faith
CSP
emma, This makes 8oz of carrot juice cocktail (Nourishing Traditions) 1lb carrots peeled (costco sells a big bag for $6 something) 2 tablespoons cream (not ultrapasteurized) Process carrots in a juicer. stir in the cream. Sip slowly. cream added to carrot juice helps convert carotine into vit A. This is on my list of things to try in this book. C.P.

Calicat
Check out "Fit for Life", "Fit for Life 2", or "Living Health", all by the same people (last name Diamond). I like Living Health the best. I don't agree with absolutely everything they say, and they are kind of preachy in tone, but they do have some good ideas and good recipes, including some excellent juices. They HIGHLY recommend the Champion juicer for ease of cleaning plus a couple special features, if anyone's interested. I love carrot juice with apple juice (about half and half is nice). A bit of celery in there is also good, or a bit of beet for colour and flavour (it is absolutely beautiful). I guess I like to stick with juices that aren't too unusual. Orange is great, or orange/grapefruit. Try apple/grape, too. Calicat
emma1
Thanks for the great tips. I am going to try them today, before I get discouraged and put the juicer away.
