L-Carnitine and Verbal Tics

I asked our doctor about using L-Carnitine, and so he checked my child's carnitine level. Today I found out that it is in the normal (average) range. So, my question is: Could I still use carnitine for verbal tics? My doctor (who is just our regular pediatrician, but who has had a lot of info on PANDAS) seemed to suggest I would only want to supplement (with L-Carnitine) if the carnitine level tested low.

Emma,

how do they test for that? blood test? I am surprised a regular pediatrician would agree to test for that. Could/would he test for all vitamin levels?

How is your daughter doing, does she still have a vocal? Is she still on antibiotics?

Thanks

Faith

I don't know what he would test for (as in all vitamin levels) but he did test for this. She is doing well, but came down with a bad virus (not strep) a couple of days ago, and I am noticing a few symptoms today.

It was a blood test. We had gone in a couple of weeks ago for something else, and had just asked about the L-Carnitine for future reference.

Emma,

My son tested high outputs of Adipate in his urine, under the Fatty Acid Metabolism. Carnitine was listed as one of the intervention options along with B2. I don't know if his carnitine levels were normal or not, but he could take 400mg at age 13 and about 85lbs.

That was done by Metametrix Labs.
