puppydog Posted September 12, 2015 Report Posted September 12, 2015 Does anyone know why prednisone would cause panic attacks but ant-inflammatories would calm symptoms? Thanks
emst Posted September 13, 2015 Report Posted September 13, 2015 10% people can not tolerate prednisone at all, screams, injury etc
mommybee Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 Steroids depresses the immune system. When there is an underlying active infection (strep or Lyme), prednisone can cause symptoms to emerge which the immune system is ordinarily able to keep at bay.
jan251 Posted September 16, 2015 Report Posted September 16, 2015 I too would be considering an underlying infection(s). We have the same experience, bad with steroids but good experience with anti-inflammatories in that sometimes the anti-inflammatories will help take the edge off, ever-so-slightly. We are dealing with strep, mycoplasma, lyme, bartonella, babesia. Steroids are contraindicated in the case of lyme.
mommybee Posted September 17, 2015 Report Posted September 17, 2015 Prescription anti inflammatory medications were the only medication that provided symptom relief. Antibiotics seem to prevent reinfection.
Sirena Posted September 25, 2015 Report Posted September 25, 2015 Hi puppy dog, The quantity of prednisone and whether ther is a good taper seems to make a difference from my experience. Our ds was on pred this summer and it helped a bit, but ibuprophen seemed to regulate more. I wonder if medrol (predisolone) might be different. I've read it has better activity for neurological inflammation.
puppydog Posted September 26, 2015 Author Report Posted September 26, 2015 Your responses have been so interesting to to read. I hadn't thought about the differences between an anti-inflammatory and an immune suppressant. Thanks
