mmiglio
I am looking for dosage info and side effects for NAC. I searched the forum but thought this might be easier than going through all the posts. My dd11 is only 58 pounds. PANDAS diagnosis two months ago for strep and mycoplasma pneumonia. Did four weeks of augmentin with no relief and just finished 9th day on zithro also no relief although a lot of die off. She is also taking Nystatin for yeast as well as chlorella for detox and a probiotic. We tried inositol, and I believe it is lessening her OCD symptoms but it seems to be making her ADHD so much worse so I want to try NAC instead but I heard it might be hard on the stomach. Everything she already takes is hard on the stomach. Thanks!
sarojane
Hemp CBD oil has really helped my daughteR with anxiety. Also holy basil, and resveratrol.
pr40
nac hard on stomach? why exactly? it is hard for those who cannot process sulfur -- at least that's what I heard.
sarojane
My husband has brain issues, and bought NAC. One of the benefits he had read was to fight off colds. My daughter and I had come down with bad colds (pre pandas ) and my daughter was very sick to her stomach post NAC. I didn't feel great either. After that he poked a little deeper into NAC info and it can damage the mucosa lining of the digestive tract which is the exact opposite of what will make someone with PANDAS well. sarojane and mmiglio
emst
We use "pharmanac" and find it quite gentle and quick acting, supposedly has best absorption of all Nac, recommended by Dr. mmiglio
pr40
nac is good for colds because it is good for mucus. it has no other effect on colds.
DsMom
Dr. T recommended NAC for my DS but he had a horrible reaction to it. Based on his 23 n Me results NAC was way wrong for him, but we didn't know that until a few months later so Dr. T wouldn't have known that of course, and I'm sure it can help many children, but it increased all the things we wanted to decrease in my son and had to discontinue quickly. He flared fast and hard when he took it...
MomWithOCDSon
NAC is very helpful for some while very unhelpful to others; the difference may lie within the methylation capabilities of each individual. In my DS's case, he is, by most indicators, an "under-methylator," and NAC has been very helpful/supportive for him. We follow the dosage that was utilized in a Yale/NIMH trial for treatment-resistant OCD; there were trials for both children and adults. You can PM me with an email address and I can share that study with you, or you might be able to Google it and still find it on-line. My DS is adult-sized so we follow the adult dose, which is 1800 mgs daily. Good luck to you! mmiglio
