sf_mom
Happy Holidays! I've been reflecting a lot on 2014 as the holiday season approaches. In brief, older DS had a sudden on-set at 5 1/2 years old. Three weeks after MMR, strep related illness and virus our DS woke up a different child on June 27th. We treated him for PANDAS for 1 1/2 years with good success (inclusive of 3 HD IVIGs) but never achieved full remission of symptoms. At the 1 1/2 year mark he had blood in his stool for over 8 weeks and started looking beyond strep for the cause of his PANS and found many things. Our son had Lyme, Bartonella, Babesia, EBV, Coxsackies, methylation issues, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, mold and heavy metals, etc. It truly felt like he was positive for everything!!!! Later we found our younger boy/girl twins and myself had all the same infections and issues. We've been on this PANS/PANDAS journey for a long time. Older DS is now 10 1/2 years old and maintains a high level of recovery with no notable PANS symptoms. In the past year we've really tried some unique therapies in hopes we could put Lyme behind us completely. Some of these therapies included: Ozone, HBOT, TMS, Mold Detoxification, HD Vitamin C and IV nutrients, etc. Hence, I wanted to share one of the most cost effective and beneficial therapies that we've tried in the last year in hopes it might help someone else. It is called earthing or grounding. We started grounding all of our children every night while they sleep. I won't go into detail on the science but to summarize it helps tremendously with inflammation, sleep, EMF exposure.......... plus many other things. Here is a good starter kit which includes a book for $19.99 http://www.earthing.com/product_p/sobbk.htm I would recommend purchasing a sheet or pillowcase eventually if beneficial to your child. Grounding can cause a herx so the bands are perfect to start. A starter kit was given to me from a "Lyme" friend. Anyway, I've been around this board for a while so this is not a sales pitch... just great inexpensive results for our entire family. I suspect it was the EMF mitigation - neutralization that was so helpful to our kids. Wishing you all recovery in 2015! rowingmom
Thanks for the link sfmom, I have been pondering this for a while. I was chasing it down this morning, but found this instead: http://oneradionetwork.com/health/dave-stetzer-the-difference-between-grounding-the-body-and-discharging-energy-they-are-not-the-same-december-17-2013/ Apparently these devices work differently in different climates, and depending on the amount of ground current in your area. Earthing devices used in areas with damp soil will conduct current back through the device, which I guess would not be helpful.
sf_mom
Interesting interview and thanks for posting. I am not sure what to make of it. It might be worth trying to unplug, use tinfoil and see if we get similar results. We are definitely seeing accumulative improvement. The change was instant for us. Or example, my husband had a running injury and was unable to run for the past six months. After two weeks of grounding up to his injury he was able to run again. Our younger son who was getting up two or three times a night for over two years is also sleeping through the night and for longer periods of time. I too am seeing really odd improvements.... like a little area of Rosacea on one of my legs resolved (connecting grounding pad up to it) and my chronic sinus issue has resolved. Maybe we don't have that much ground current here in our area? Another interesting thing in the interview is when using a grounding mat and doing ART the energy goes slack. I would be curious for you to try tinfoil first and see if it helps independently of 'officially' grounding. By the way.... We are switching older DS to an all herbal protocol. I will eventually update if we are successful in making the transition. He currently only ARTs for fungus/yeast, chemicals, pesticides. rowingmom
If you live in an area of California where the soil is dry, perhaps ground current isn't an issue for you, and you won't get conduction from the ground back through the device. It sounds like the grounding pads are working for you - that's great! The ground where we live contains a fair amount of clay (which retains moisture) and we are snow covered for about 5 months of the year. I will try the discharge method first, but at this time of year when it is dry in the house, we pretty much discharge every time we touch a door knob. sf_mom
That is funny!! I remember those days growing up in MN and shocking myself from the door knobs. The big lesson so far in the grounding experience is EMFs are an issue..... I thought we had bypassed that one thing. I think the more impacted by heavy metals you are the more EMF sensitive you can be. Of course, we had a heavy metals issue as well.
rowingmom
I think the more impacted by heavy metals you are the more EMF sensitive you can be. Agreed, and why not. Metals have to act as intercellular antenna for concentrating signals. Both DD and myself have noticed a big decrease in electrosensitivity by detoxing metals with cilantro/diatomaceous earth daily. I can actually go into a mall or coffee shop without developing palpitations now, and we are much more successful at sleeping in wireless areas (ie hotels with free wifi) than we used to be. DD used to be very electrosensitive, with significant symptoms of fatigue, headache, bone pain and ticcing. She used to hate going shopping because it always meant suffering. Now she's good to go! Are your kids still electrosensitive, @Rowingmom and @Sf_mom? A couple of questions: What EMF radiation levels do you find healthy? Assuming you tested. And, how low did your kids need to go to not have symptoms when they were electrosensitive? And, what heavy metals did you test your kids for, and what was the indication used by the MD (or non-md)? We'd done mercury a couple of years back, and his levels were low. My iphone's Magnetometer app reads 30-55 micro-Teslas right now, ~45 by our headboards. But I just haven't done the research to find out what's "typical" in an urban/suburban environment w/ and w/o wifi or what's induced by nearby cell towers. Nor what was typical a century ago, before all this. Nor even whether it is the lowest levels that are most bio-active, like with some estrogen-mimics. I do know that we are in a soup of EMF waves. We have our wifi on all the time, and bunches of phones and laptops with wifi turned on, and even wireless electrical switches. Beyond which, outside the house there are all the competing cell companies' towers, (not to mention high-voltage transmission lines -- for us maybe a mile away). But I know that power falls away w/ the cube of distance, so those may not be relevant. So not that I want to add another thing to worry about, but if it's relevant, I will. (And DH, the EE, would certainly give his $0.02, so I'd love some data.) Thanks, wisdom_seeker (still a novice)
LNN
WisdomSeeker - just fyi...SFMom and RowingMom are both a wealth of information - but neither are on the forum much (nor am I). If you want to connect with them, your best bet is to send them a PM, which I think they both have set up to go into their personal emails. rowingmom
Here I am! DD and myself are definitely not as electrosensitive as we used to be. And what a relief not to have tinnitus 24/7. My son was also electrosensitive before starting the cilantro/DE protocol, but his didn't show up until he started university. Unknown to him, his room mate purchased a wifi antenna for his computer so that he could send his games to his friend's room a couple of corridor's down. All the rooms in the brick/cinderblock residence are hard wired, so I thought this would be one issue we wouldn't have to deal with. Within 1 day DS (then 18 and never having experienced lyme/co/PANS ever) was complaining of migraines and an inability to concentrate. He called me asking what might be the matter - he is never sick and is very athletic and healthy (only organic foods from the farmers market). The first thing that came to mind was wifi, so I had him ask his room mate about it. Crazy that the response was yes, and that it was installed the day before. They worked out a deal where the room mate would only use wireless when DS18 was at the library or in class (both with wifi, but not as near to the router I guess), but not at night. As for the EE husband, my father was an EE, but passed away several years ago. Wifi was not an issue then, but I often wonder what his take on it would have been. Magda Havas (brought to my attention by our LLMD) asserts that the EMFs produced by wifi etc. act to destabilize our natural electrical currents/rhythms (think nerve conduction and heart beat). As a result, if we are exposed to these EMFs our bodies will continually be trying to rebalance back to homeostasis. Another stressor neither we nor or weakened children need. Our bodies are capable of handling stress; toxins, metals, pesticides which negatively impact gut bacteria (and thus immune response), vaccinations, bacterial/viral infections, EMFs, emotional stress; but an over-accumulation of stress must eventually lead to a tipping point. My feeling is that this is the point our effected children have reached. All I can do is recommend these websites: http://www.magdahavas.org/ http://www.c4st.org/ Your EE husband will think them conspiracy theory, or he will consider them as perhaps having some merit. Personally, when my husband told me lyme disease was not accepted by the mainstream and was therefore some kind of fantasy I had, I just buckled down and researched further. This strained our relationship greatly, but eventually as DD started to recover he came around. In my opinion, no amount of wifi or EMF exposure is healthy. Our bodies didn't evolve with this kind of interference and have trouble regaining balance when exposed. At home we have: - replaced cordless phones with corded. - wired the computer and only use the wireless when downloading. Other than that it is disabled. - set our phones etc. on airplane or keep them away from our bodies. Phones are turned off in the car because of the Faraday cage effect. - use text or speaker phone only to limit the amount of energy entering the skull. - turn off the electrical circuits to our bedrooms at night. This seriously made a big difference in how well we sleep. - brought in a consultant to do an EMF survey of the house. He found that the Xbox was emitting even when turned off. We had to pug it into a separate power bar which we could turn on and off. He also found a magnetic field around the circuit joining the bedrooms. After further investigation by an electrician we found a ground wire pulled from the attic into a closet lamp to be the culprit. - replaced all CFL bulbs with incandescent - placed Stetzer filters on all of the circuits to decrease the amount of dirty electricity being thrown from the wires. The night after I did this (unknown to my husband), he mentioned that he had slept extremely well. All of these measures were taken while we were still electrosensitive, and gave us some relief while at home. Our electrosensitivity outside the home didn't decrease until we started the cilantro/DE protocol - google "poor man's chelation". Then we really started noticing the difference. We never tested for heavy metals, so I'm not sure which ones were involved in our case. Know that mercury is sequestered in tissues so may not be obvious upon testing. My husband is constantly telling me that I need a tin-foil cap, but you know what, DD is better; and in my opinion that's all that counts. I'm not saying that EMFs are the only problem - there is not only one problem - there are many additive problems, and in my opinion we have to deal with them all to recover our children Never let anyone tell you that your intuition is wrong. If you feel strongly about something, it is your job to follow the trail to the end. Edited January 4, 2016 by rowingmom
