DanL
Does anyone out there NOT do prophylaxis and does good this way? Or treat as symptoms comes? My kids have just mild symptoms/flares...maybe 5 since February Like Repeating statement, urine urgency, wets bed. Reassurance. If not doing prophylaxis, any other measure used to prevent re infection?
dcmom
We have not been doing prophylaxis for probably 4 years and my kids are better than ever! We still see flares, and treat them with minocyclene and/or steroids (IV). We recently added low dose prozac to my younger pandas dd who just could not get to 100%- now she is 110%! We see a very well regarded NYC neurologist who does NOT believe in prophylaxis!

NYCMom
We stopped for 2 yrs, but then ds contracted strep followed by Lyme so we've been back on prophylactics since. During the 2 yrs we just concentrated on reducing sugar, gluten, etc and took probiotics as often as we could remember. Not always 100% during that period but pretty darn close. dcmom - ditto for me, could you please pm me the neurologist in NY? thx.
Hrosenkrantz
DCmom -- i'm curious about why doctor doesn't believe in prophlaxis....I've had a couple of doctors suggest the same thing recently to me but I do not fully understand the reason -- is doctor opposed, or just thinks it does not do anything so why keep pumping the kid with abx? dasu
One of our doctors - an ENT - has claimed that prophylactics arent needed after a T&E. We do herbal prophylactics now.
