Lydiasmum
I have been doubting myself about my thoughts on whether DD has PANDAS (not helped by views of local neurologists who claim she is a typical case of TS). Just wanted to ask you all this: I have been keeping a diary and DD had a positive strep throat dx on 12th July 2013. Severe tics and chorea like movements (i.e. dragging her foot) appeared 4 weeks later mid August. Is there a link here, is this typical or just coincidence? I would appreciate views on this. This was the first dx of strep we had, although initial severe onset appeared the year before and severe TS symptoms came on overnight 4 weeks after she presented symptoms of a urine infection (very frequent urination but no infection found). Previous to this she had been at nursery and had been sick the whole year with sore throats, high temperatures and definitely hand, foot and mouth. Missmom
I think your dd probably had an undiagnosed strep infection during all those early episodes of sickness. We all know here how unreliable those rapid strep tests are and how quick local doctors are to rely on those tests. Even cultures can give false negatives if the nurse does to get a good swab. I also think the frequent urination episode was the start and the tics and chorea movements are a result of your childs system being overloaded. I am no expert, but definitely sounds like pandas or pans to me. Glad you have been keeping a journal and hope you can find a doctor to help. 4Nikki
I have no real knowledge of TS, but when I looked up the defination and origin, I found it to have the same BS as other syndroms/disorders that were given a name but the turth is the origins/cause have not been identified. I also read that TS is overwhelming inherited. If this is actually the case, then sounds like you being sold a used car.
