ad_ccl Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 sending good vibes your way! hope you have the same success as we did . As I said earlier when he switched to azith we saw an improvement by the next day - but did not want to get our hopes up - by day 3 it was significant and by day 10 (we extended the course as he was doing so well and we wanted to makes sure we got rid of any infection) he was 100% tic free. That was from a once a second vocal gasp/squeak - literally! By day 2 I think we were seeing 15 seconds between them and then the space kept increasing to several minutes etc then they were gone! That is great that you too have a doctor willing to let you try the azith. Looking forward to a good news update.
Mike Posted March 19, 2007 Author Report Posted March 19, 2007 Yes, well I still am ticked (no pun intended) at our Dr. for just telling us tics are normal when he had a sudden onset and had a history of strep (but then again most kids do get strep multiple times I hear). He didn't even call him in for a strep test or blood test. It was 5 days later when I did some searching online that I insisted on the strep test. It kills me we let 5 days go by without helping him in any way. That may not be much compared to others in the same situation. My wife picked up the prescription and the pharmacist said Azith covers a broader range of strep strain than the Keflex so maybe that is why it is more successful. We will start him after school today since he has to avoid certain foods within 2 hours of taking Azith. I hear you need to avoid calcium rich foods like dairy before and after taking. That is unlike the Keflex which has no limitations. I also am curious about allergies and tics. During baseball he has been ticcing more but I chalked that up to being anxious. Maybe it's being outside during pollen season. My car here in Northern, CA is covered with pollen every morning I wonder if it could be allergies as well. I will have the blood test done for allergies as well to be safe. Thanks for all the support.
