ibcdbwc Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 With all these threads about loose teeth being a trigger, it got me wondering about braces. Our DS almost 13 used to flare with new teeth - though not always. He now needs braces. Surely this will be a stress and cause some sort of inflammatory response... Has anyone else had to deal with this yet? (As some of you know, we were flare free age 11-12 1/2 but now dealing with more frequent and more dramatic flares...)
bigmighty Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 We were concerned about the same possibilities. Internist highly recommended invisalign as far less likely to result in inflammation or infection. DS is nearly done with them (9 months) and has had good success and remains in remission. They were $700 more expensive than traditional braces,
dcmom Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Our older dd has had braces for one year plus with no ill effects. Her immune system seemed calmed down when she got them as she has been relatively free of PANDAS for 1.5 years prior. She has been relatively pandas free for 3 years, our fingers are crossed. We will be looking at braces for our more affected pandas daughter within the next year...
MomWithOCDSon Posted January 17, 2014 Report Posted January 17, 2014 Our DS had no issues with braces, other than the typical ones (a sore mouth for a few days); he did take ibuprofen regularly for about 3 days after they were installed, though.
ibcdbwc Posted January 17, 2014 Author Report Posted January 17, 2014 Thanks everyone! You have no idea how stressed I've been thinking about braces! Good to hear your experiences!
3bmom Posted January 18, 2014 Report Posted January 18, 2014 Our DS had a rash on his stomach when he first got PANDAS AT AGE 6. He had it for one year till It went away when we took out 2 dental stainless steel caps. Needless to say we were very worried about braces. We have had them 2 years and no problems. His allergies were life threatening at the time but we now are near normal with a GMO, dairy, wheat and corn free diet. Figure that is an important inflammatory layer removed.
