larry
Wow! What a blessing this site has been to my wife and I these past few days. Reading thru the archived forums was amazing. We're "rookies" when it comes to pandas but we're veterans when it comes to living with tics. Our son had several cases of strep when he was 7 years old and finally had tonsils removed. A few weeks after his surgery he started to have tics. Over the years, the tics appeared and disappeared though he seemed to be worse in winter months. The tics would come out of nowhere and then gradually fade away. He's been on tenex and zoloft to treat the symptons. My wife always says she never knows what's coming down to breakfast in the morning! He's 13 now and has recently gone thru a terrible period. In the past, he could control it at school but now he's disrupting his classes. We started to take a fresh look at things since our doctors don't seem to have the answers. When we came across description of pandas, he totally fit the profile. He has had terrible incidents of separation anxiety as well. Last year out of blue he locked himself in bathroom refusing to go to school. This had never happenned before and we could not understand where all that separation anxiety came from. We are very anxious to find a doctor in the Chicago area who is familiar with pandas. If anyone has any suggestions we would be most grateful for any names. Also, any suggestions for what kind of probiotics are best? many thanks! Larry
