Strep in a probiotic - bad?

i was reading some old threads and came across one about streptococcus bacteria in a probiotic. I give my son Klaire Labs Ther-biotic with 25 bill CFU's. i just looked and it contains strep bacteria.

I am wondering if this is bad since we are thinking he may have PANDAS due to a recent increase in tics associated with a positive strep test.

He's been on this probiotic for months now with no issues - tics were at a very low level from Aug - Nov.

Is there a difference in the type of bacteria in the probiotic that makes it good versus bad?

Any thoughts on this?

Yes, some contain strains of strep. While at times I have been concerned about probiotics causing flares, I have been able to rule that out. That being said, I now do use a product called Yeastbiotic by Organic 3 inc. You can go to their website. Must be refrigerated. It is approved for Panda kids.

Some swear their child flairs taking probiotics with strep thermophilus or eating cheeses and other dairy with it. At the PANDAS conference last weekend, it was said more than once that it is a benign strain that is not related to GAS and is not a problem to consume. My son has no problem with it in yogurt, etc..... He takes Klaire Therabiotic Detox with 50 billion per capsule and it does not have Strep T in it.

My son has never had an issue with the strep thermopolis. It's not that I take any pains to avoid it per se, it's just that it's usually found in high sugar yogurts - and its the sugar that's a bigger problem IMO, with yeast always looking to have a house party, drunk on sugar.

The best categories of probiotics are lactobacillus and bifido strains. I've had the most success with brands that use these two families. Currently trying CP-1 and have used Kirkman's Bifido and Theralac in the past.
