Humidity Problem

Every winter my bedroom door keeps swelling up, and my door is very hard to get open. I got stuck in my bedroom last night. I try to remember not to shut my door all the way in the winter, but it hasn't become a habit yet. I know it's from the humidity and isn't a problem with the door knob or anything like that.

 

Would you be concerned with the humidity in the house if this is happening to the door? Reminder, I have lots of dust & mold allergies. I've been thinking that maybe I need to get a dehumidifier.

 

Does anybody here have a dehumidifier and do you recommend a certain brand?

That sounds strange. Winter time usually means low humidity.

We all have humidifier turn on.

 

First thing I would buy is a humidity meter that reads humidity.

 

We have one in our son's bedroom.

 

This will tell you if you really have a humidity problem.

 

Winter time you want a humidity of around 40.

 

Any dehumidifer is okay, the bigger the bucket the more moisture it will hold and less of emptying the bucket.

Otherwise put it next to your window and connect the hose that comes with it and put it out the window.

 

Dehumidifier does produce a fair share amount of heat. It will warm and dry up your room.

 

I am not sure why your door would swell up in winter time.

Ya, it is very strange. You would think this would happen in the summer time not the winter. I'll probably get a humidity meter and see what that reads.

Thanks Daniel. I got a humidity meter & it read low humidity. So I set up a humidifier and sure enough low humidity was the cause of my door swelling up. Why it's backwards from the norms I have no idea.
