Please help me find a doctor for my son...I am in South Florida

Hello. I am struggling with finding a doctor that can help my son. He has had tics for the passed two years and I just don't know what type of doctor to look for. All I know is that I do not want to take him to a neurologist of any doctor that will prescribe medicines that would only worsen the case. I have been noticing what causes some of his tics but want to have him tested to find out what other causes/things are triggering more tics.

Please help!

We are in the South Florida area. If I have to, I don't care if I have to drive far...I just want to help my sweet boy.

Hi Shirly, So sorry your son is dealing with tics. We really miss Dr Albert Robbins in S Florida since he retired; he was an environmental physician who used to see a lot of children with tics. There aren't others in FL who practice with the same approach he used.

Please drop me an email and tell me more about your son's history, the symptoms he has, and what you have seen that affects the tics. Then we can work together in hopes of finding the right person for him, OK? You can write to acn@latitudes.org and please put your name in the subject line. Thanks. Sheila

Hello Shirly and Sheila,

I, too, live in South Florida and just received the book yesterday regarding natural treatment options for tics and Tourettes. My now 7 year old has had his "habits" - which we now know are tics - for years, but it was always one habit at a time and would then change over to another. They never interfered with his school or daily functioning. All of a sudden they have increased tremendously in intensity and he has three tics going at once - humming, eye blinking and sniffling. I was so excited to learn about Dr. Albert Robbins and now so disappointed to learn that he has retired. My 11 year old son is now repetitively blinking his eyes as well. Both of my children are scheduled to be seen by a neurologist at Miami Children's Hospital tomorrow, although I'm not sure where that course of action will take us. I am going to have my house checked for mold and we have already reduced my son's sugar intake dramatically. I haven't used toxic cleaning products or pesticides in my house for years. I am at a loss and heartbroken when I see how these tics are taking over my beautiful little boy who is being so brave. Can you please point me towards another practitioner who can help determine what may be triggering these tics in such intensity now? I, like all of you who are part of this forum, will do anything to help my children.

Thank you so very much!

Heather

Hello Heather,

I'm so sorry your children are going thru this too. I am still trying to figure out who to go to. I, for now, am choosing not to go to a neurologist although my son has never been officially diagnosed in any way. Ms. Sheila Rogers has been kind enough to write to me and tell me she would try to find a doctor in the area that may be able to help. I am looking forward to hearing from her again.

Nancy, I thank you for your advice. I actually wrote to Dr. Murphy prior to getting on this forum and she wrote back suggesting a Dr. Dan Rossingol if we have problems with nutrition, or Dr. Elena Perez at the university of Miami if problems with allergies. I am planning to call them today because I feel my son's pediatrician is not directing me in any way except to a pediatric neurologist.

Heather, please stay in touch with us on this forum. I feel like we can help each other...I will keep you posted as to what steps we take with my son.

Thank you, Shirly
