pr40
why is dr afraid? because there is a campaign to prescribe less abx. the assumption is that our current practice is creating super bugs and pcps are supposed to be gatekeepers. i am not sure that you can say with certainty that augmetin caused rages. there may be a coincidence btw augmetin and rages because of the effect that augmetin has or it may be a herxing
Dedee
Your physician is afraid because he / she is not PANDAS / PANS literate. If he was educated on proper treatment he would understand that your daughters brain is under attack and not hesitate to do what ever is necessary to protect it from further insult. The rages may or may not be caused by the antibiotic. It could be the course of PANDAS playing out or a herx, which is the release of toxins as the bacteria die off. You need to continue antibiotics and treat in the event of a herx. Do a search on this forum for herx and you will find some good remedies. Make sure your daughter is getting plenty of fluids to flush any toxins. If things don't settle down after a week or two you may consider trying a different antibiotic. You are right to assume that 10 days is not enough. If your physician is not helping, find someone who will. You are going to need a PANDAS / PANS specialist. Go ahead and make an appointment. You can find some names on the pandasnetwork.org page. This is not something you will be able to manage without an educated physician. As a general rule, things get worse with each infection untill you can get a manageable plan. Best of luck. rowingmom
Your doctor is probably afraid to treat outside the ISDA guidelines which aren't in agreement with the extended use of antibiotics. The use of protocols which don't adhere to the guidelines can cause the doctor's practice to come under scrutiny. Lyme Literate Doctors and PANDAS specialists deal with this possibility on a daily basis. That is why we don't mention doctor's full names on the forum. These are the only doctor's willing to put their practices on the line for our children. Edited October 3, 2013 by rowingmom

Dedee With regards to herx , i skimmed a little of this page https://chronicillnessrecovery.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=161 Have you heard if anyone has tried using the hyperbaric chamber to assist this?I would have thought any doctor familuar with herxing and detoxification would have thought about using the HB as an assistant? Nick12
Our doctor prescribed augmentin last September. His behaviors became worse than any Pandas episode. He kept insisting it was bacterial die off. After 2 months, the doctor switched abx, but our son has never been the same.
