trintiybella Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 When your are prescribed an antibiotic, does your doctor always prescribe a yeast fighter too, like nystatin or difucan??? Thankss
rowingmom Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 We were not. But we have always used probiotics, and lots of them.
T_Anna Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 We have been on Diflucan in the past. DS had a particular odor to him after a few months on Abx and after a few days on Diflucan it disappeared. He is off it now and seems ok, but we have it on hand in case he needs it again. T.Anna
trintiybella Posted July 5, 2013 Author Report Posted July 5, 2013 He's still on abx. though, right Anna?
T_Anna Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Yes. Dr.Schulman suggested that he probably no longer needs the Diflucan. So far it has been a week and, fingers crossed, he seems fine. T.Anna
LNN Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 We never used either of these but like RowingMom, always used probiotics, especially those with a decent amount of bifido bacteria. We also use odorless garlic and sometimes olive leaf extract to keep things in check. But not everyone can be on these for long stretches. My DD needs to restrict these due to a methylation issue. But they work well for my DS.
T_Anna Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 DS was always on probiotics, but maybe his system was always yeasty?! T.Anna
Hrosenkrantz Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Does anyone have a good over the counter probiotic they recommened?
Mayzoo Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 (edited) We use probiotics, prebiotics and bio-enhanced curcumin to control yeast. So far, it seems to working since her yeast markers are pretty good. Edited July 5, 2013 by Mayzoo
Mayzoo Posted July 5, 2013 Report Posted July 5, 2013 Does anyone have a good over the counter probiotic they recommened? We use Healthy Origins 30 BU. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00309ZDS2/ref=twister_B00309S4C4?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is does not need refrigeration, and it is able to pass through to the intestines for absorption. It has 8 strains and 30BU.
Hrosenkrantz Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Thanks so much for the recommendation, Mayzoo
nicklemama Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Not originally. It the doc he is now seeing has him on diflucan every other day. He also takes saccaromyces boulliardi and enhansa and they control yeast, as well.
