kim Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Blueberry and Molly, I wanted to say a big welcome. As the mother of two boys with a tic syndrome, I know how baffling and upsetting this whole puzzle can be. I have been a member of this forum for almost 2 years now, and I would like to tell you that the knowledge and support here, has been invaluable. I hope you quickly find answers to help improve your/your child's health. I am greatly interested in the origin of tic disorders. It seems there are many scenario's that precede the onset of tics and co morbid conditions. Could either of you comment on the following? 1. Is there a family history of TS or Chronic Tics, OCD, ADHD etc? 2. Had there been a recent viral or bacterial illness, prior to onset? (mono, strep, staph, chicken pox, respiratory illness, etc) 3. Did you/your child received any immunizations within 2 years of onset? For older children or young adults, that may include HepB series, meningitis vax, tetanus booster, etc. 4. Was there any antibiotic use (or other medications, including the use of antacids/prescription reflux meds) that you can remember, prior to onset? 5. Any surgery or injuries that you associate with onset? If there are any other events or symptoms that you have wondered about being associated with this condition (i.e. Molly, you mentioned your son's allergies) sometimes these specifics can help others comment. We have quite a diversity of situations here. Thanks in advance for any info. you may be able to provide! Kim

Kim I am not going to answer these questions as I have not been formally diagnosed with tic disorder. My symptoms may be caused by something else and I may not even have tic disorder. These questions pertain to someone with tic disorder and I am starting to doubt that is what I have.
kim Posted December 5, 2006 Author Report Posted December 5, 2006 blueberry muffin, Your above remark, makes me think of one thing. BRAVO to you. It's so nice to see someone so young, really questioning, prior to starting a prescription medication. The above questions don't really require any type of answer anyway. Part of the reason that I posted them, was hoping that someone might correlate an illness, or event with the onset of a suspected tic, or co morbid condition. There are many things that I just don't remember from the time my boys exhibited any signs, that I wish I would have paid more attention to. I hope as you read through the posts here, that it helps you to come to a decision as to what path you are going to take. From your replies, it sounds like you are already coming to some conclusions. Best of luck! Kim
