EmilyK Posted December 22, 2012 Report Posted December 22, 2012 Maybe it's coincidence, but after a week of extra zinc supplementation I got an email from DS' teacher this morning about the great week he had with hard work on his math and writing (previously very poor subjects). Paying attention the week before vacation is tough for any kid I think, but for him to show an improvement makes me so happy. Augmentin + Zythromycin + Zinc is making for a nice equation So greatful for the good advice here, Emily

We could use a little more attention and focusing round here! I've tried various supplements suggested for various reasons from this site. Some have worked. Most have not.....but I'm always willing to give a trial when I see some of this info to see if it has a long lasting impact for my child. Probiotics were no go. Fish Oil is Ok for us. NAC was a no go. Have not tried Zinc??? Thanks!
EmilyK Posted December 28, 2012 Author Report Posted December 28, 2012 I'll have to research the KPU - not familiar with that. He's 48 lbs and taking Jarrow formulas zinc balance 15 mg zinc and 1 mg copper.

StillHopeful Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Emily K - Did you start the antibiotics first and then add the zinc? Did you see more of an improvement when you added the zinc? Rowing mom - how can you get KPU tested? Does a doctor have to order it or can you do it on your own? Thanks.
rowingmom Posted December 28, 2012 Report Posted December 28, 2012 Here is a informative forum thread regarding KPU: http://www.latitudes.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=18657&st=0&p=147727&hl=kpu&fromsearch=1entry147727 We have not tested for it and I am hesitant to supplement too much zinc if we don't need it, because of the way it interacts with copper. This will be one of the tests I talk to the LLMD about at DD11's next appointment.
