Hopeny
We are very seriously thinking of adding Bactrim to the mix to treat DD8 suspected Bart, has anyone used this succesfully? any advice? I am scared to try and scared not to. DD has foot sole pain, leg pains and psych issues. PANDAS stuff has really quieted down with Biaxin/Augmentin. Was even able to do bloodwork this week with no protets or bribes (!!!!!!!), and DD even joking with the tech. Seems like we are left with Lyme/Bart stuff. hugs2day
Bactrim was added to my son's Azithro several times over the last 6 months and it helped tremendously. He was calmer, happier, rash cleared, energy improved. He does not stay on the bactrim longterm due to his GI problems which are treated seperately, but always stays on the zithro. The first couple of days we added bactrim there was mild agitation did not last long and switched to dramatic mood and anxiety improvement. Take bactrim with lots of water. Good luck. KaraM
My dd was originally just on Zithromax for PANDAS. When we discovered Bart, we added Bactrim. She has been on both of them daily since March 2011. It made a difference very quickly...but with definite, extreme herxes at the beginning. Then the herxes got less intense and shorter. She always came out stronger on the other side. So two steps forward, one step back. When we confirmed Lyme in Nov. 2011, later, we stayed the course with those two, and added Tindamax on weekends. It's taken a while, but she is really doing so well right now. My ds has been on Biaxin and Bactrim...for LYme, possible (but never confired) Bartonella. He also got frequent sinus infections and mycoplasma (whih my dd did not) and responded to the Biaxin, which is why I think he is not on the Zith/Bactrim combo. We also just added Tindamax for him. MamaOnAMission
when my girl was on bactrim by itself, she was mean and sleep did not improve. When I added minocycline to doryx to it...she slept. Our LLMD said that 2 antibiotics are needed for bactrim and that certainly seems to work in our case. With sleep anyway. Lots of other symptoms are still present but we are at the beginning with this.
Hopeny
Thank you both. We have made a lot of progress with PANS symtoms and some Lyme stuff, but DD has ongoing foot sole pain, leg pain, terrible self esteem and some general what I will call "upsetedness". She gets very short/angry at times and it is so not her personality, and never was. Anxiety and OCD are gone, so is the suicidality thankfully. She tested - for Bart but I think I may be a carrier and she is just not getting over the hump here so we decided to try to treat. I am very afriad of losing the progress we have made. But I think we need to treat and see what happens or she will never fully get better. The augmentin/biaxin work really well, and we seem to have more progress on the combo than with Doxy, so I would like to stick with the combo.
