colleendonny Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 DS3 is very red in his groin area. It looks painful and it is hurting him. He has been on Augmentin 600mg 1/2 tsp 2x per day. Could he have a yeast infection? Or is it more likely diaper rash related? ( He still wears pullups).
1tiredmama Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 Could be yeast, but it could be the pull-ups, or a combination of the two. When my ds was that age, I could not use them because he got a horrible rash everytime we put one on. Just a thought. I'd probably treat it like a yeast infection and forgo the pull-ups. I used the washable crib mattress protectors and did a lot of laundry, instead. I hope your baby feels better soon!
beeskneesmommy Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 I know someone who has PANDAS kids who get a topical Strep rash in the groin area. If it persists, you might want to take him in and request a swab...
Hopeny Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 (edited) my DD8 had a huge red groin rash and we finally got a dx of Lyme, it could be many things but just wanted to mention the Lyme to you as well. she also had strep at the time. it went away after months of treatment Edited September 1, 2012 by Hopeny
colleendonny Posted September 1, 2012 Author Report Posted September 1, 2012 Thanks for your replies The doctor thinks it is yeast. So have him on Nystatin cream now. Prior to that we did try Lotromin and it seemed to make it worse, adding a bruise like rash on his inner thighs. He does seem happier now while on nystatin. While his PANDAS seems mild for now, I think we will stop abx for a while. His last flare up seems.resolved. His biggest symptoms seemed to be night fears and stuttering, but both have resolved with about 15 days on Augmentin. From experienced parents, is it a good idea to keep him off abx for now since his symptoms seemed to resolve? I would hate to see his infection look worse....
JuliaFaith Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 Sorry so late on posting. My ds had a rash in the groin area from exercising and his dr. recommended "Shea Moisture-Raw Shea Chamomile & Argan Oil-Baby Head-to-Toe Ointment" from Target. Inexpensive, organic, and worked really well on rash.
