sf_mom Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Over the past couple of months I've been researching specific supplements we are taking to either eliminate or switch them for better ones..... For example we switched Gaba for Kavinace, eliminate histamine reducers, switched the type of C we were giving so its more absorbable, not as taxing kidney's/liver and as result we take less, etc. Also in my big push to treat or understand oxidative stress I ran across the following information that I thought made a lot of sense regarding Omegas 3 and 6 ratios. We've since switch to PEO 'Parent Essential Oils'. I am not sure if its made a difference yet but I thought the information valuable enough to post. http://www.brianpeskin.com/BP.com/publications/2011-anti-aging-therapeutics,pdf.pdf
JuliaFaith Posted July 29, 2012 Report Posted July 29, 2012 Interesting info. Ds takes salmon oil and MILA which both have omegas. Taking MILA (chia seed) makes me feel young again (no achiness). Expensive tho at $60 lb.!
sf_mom Posted July 29, 2012 Author Report Posted July 29, 2012 We were taking the high ratio of 3 to 6. Here is what we are now taking... It is more expensive but we are taking less. I don't suspect we will see huge changes immediately as it can take as long as 18 weeks for the current oils to be eliminated from the body. http://www.yes-supplements.com/YES-Supps.com/ultimate-efas.html
Christianmom Posted August 1, 2012 Report Posted August 1, 2012 I like the higher omega 6 as opposed to omega 3 since my son is pyroluric and therefore should take a high dose of omega 6. But should omega 3 be avoided altogether for a pyroluric child? http://naturalinsight.hubpages.com/hub/Pyroluria-A-Hidden-Disorder "Due to alterations in the fatty acid pathways, deficiency in arachidonic acid (Omega 6) is most common in pyrolurics. It is important to note that omega 3 EFA's (EPA/DHA) must be avoided, as they compete with omega 6 in enzymatic pathways."
sf_mom Posted August 2, 2012 Author Report Posted August 2, 2012 Very interesting article. Have you talked with Dr. S about Omegas? As you know, we are no longer being treated for KPU and wonder if its a continuing problem for Omega 3. I did look around a little for oils without the higher ratios of 3 to 6 and the only thing I found was the YES product which still has the 3 in it. I think I'll bring it along for ART testing.
Christianmom Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 Have you talked with Dr. S about Omegas? Yes. My son was on the ProEFA Xtra--4 per day. It is very high in omega 3. Dr. S put him on this, but did not test for it first. I e-mailed him about this and he said to take him off it until our next visit which is next week. I will mention the YES product to him. I am not sure if my son still has KPU. I will have Dr. S test for this on the next visit too. My son seems to be doing better without the ProEFA Xtra, but may also be improving because we added Biaxin back in temporarily (for 30 days, then 2 weeks off, then 30 days minocycline) to treat strep.
sf_mom Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 Glad to hear your son is doing better!! The ProEFA Xtra does have a very high ratio of 3 to 6, wow. I am not sure if you would notice the difference from stopping that particular Omega this quickly though. In the information I was reading it can take up to 18 weeks (Dr. Peskin's website) for existing oils to leave the body. Please update me after your next appointment. I actually ran across Peskin's stuff in a blog... a Klinghardt trained practitioner was referencing the website. Two of my kids are physically sick right now so its impossible to say if the oil has made a difference until are further out from illness. Most recently, I found this statement by Dr. Lee Cowden MD interesting. Hopefully, hopefully anything to do with oxygenation will continue to help like the switch in oils. BUT, we have had great results with MSM too (not to be confused by MMS) which also deals with oxygenation. "Causes of chronic illness include under oxygenation, acid-base imbalance, depleted nutrients, and a toxic body load" http://www.betterhealthguy.com/joomla/blog/264-physicians-round-table-2012
