KASK Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Hi, I need help in understanding the IGENIX Lab test results for Lyme test done on my mother who is very ill right now. Feed back would be so appreciated. Also what does the double star numbers with a negative (-) and "IND" with double stars mean? We live in NC and trying to find a LLMD. Upon my request my mother's medical Doctor agreed to order the IGENIX test for Lyme and all coinfections to be run (1st time he had ever heard of this test but agreed to having it done) He wasn't sure about my mother's results and is referring us to a Doctor at Duke Hospital in NC who is a Infectious Disease and tick borne disease specialist. Her phyical state has really deteriorated, can barely walk, tremors, weakness, fatigues very easily and very poor coordination can barely feed herself. She was a very active energetic woman and this started happening almost 2 years ago. I am desperately searching for answers and help for her. Thank you. On the 1st page IGenix interpretation for the results for IFA, B BURGDORFERI G/M/A Result was "40" This is results for IgM Western Blot IGENIX POSITIVE CDC/NYS NEGATIVE 18Kda. + **23-25 kDA. IND 28 kDa. - 30 kDa - **31 kDA. - **34 kDA - **39kDa IND ** 41 kDa +++ 45 kDa. - 58 kDa + 66 kDa - ** 83-93 kDa. +

You will probably see a discussion of them with a footnote on the report. Perhaps it will say something like getting x out of these 6 bands will make you positive according to the CDC, or something equally inane. IND means the lab tech found something on the paper for the band but not as much as they would need to have seen to give it a "+" score; it's sort of like a half-"+". Band 41 has 3+, meaning lots of reaction were found there, indicating more antibodies in that category than single-"+". All-in-all, there are 6 bands with reaction, some of them pretty lyme-specific. For example, band 83-93 represents antibodies for DNA of lyme, band 39 in one study had like only 2% of the population testing positive (I'd bet all or nearly all infected with lyme). Overall, this test result along with your brief description of her health situation makes me think it is extremely likely she is infected and the infection is playing an important role in her situation.
momcap Posted June 6, 2012 Report Posted June 6, 2012 Here are a couple of explanations I found helpful in determining my Western Blot results: http://www.lymenet.de/labtests/brenner.htm https://sites.google.com/site/drjoneskids/lab-tests/tests-explained--dr-crist Did your mother have any bands on the IgG western blot? Or did they only run the IgM? Although her IgM results are not CDC positive she does have many bands and some are considered very significant (positive for lyme disease by IgeneX standards). With those results and symptoms I would RUN to a good LLMD and start treatment as soon as possible. You can get an LLMD recommendation from lymenet.org - flash discussion - seeking a doctor. Good luck!
