I have spoken to several PANDAS Moms today whose kids have high Copper too. Trying to figure this out... Also my DD17 has high Platelets. We are 7 weeks post lVlG and she is doing great! She has also had pancreatitis 5 weeks ago, wondering if this just indicates inflammation..

Thanks,

Tiffani

I have no idea what it means but DS 8 has high copper and normal zinc. We have not done the MTHFR testing. We found out through testing w/ a biomed doc that we are seeing now. DS is 1yr post IVIG and doing really well.

High copper usually shows as erratic emotions and is often mis-diagnosed as bi-polar. Here's a pretty good overview:

http://drlwilson.com/articles/copper_toxicity_syndrome.htm

It influences a lot of psychiatric responses, anxiety, mood regulation, the thyroid and adrenals, fungal and yeast infections...

Blood tests for any mineral/vitamin is unreliable. Just about every site I've ever read says this. But there doesn't seem to be a good way to test, so plasma or urine tests seem to be all you can use as a rough guide.

My DD had high copper/normal zinc in her blood tests, but she was borderline for pyroluria, meaning the zinc in her blood was unavailable and pee'd out before it could be used. When she was dx'd with epstein-barr this winter, we used a Rx that contained a small amount of EDTA, which chelates copper. She also takes a daily zinc/B6 supplement (Core) which also naturally changes the balance of copper. Vitamin C in excess of 500mg/daily will also naturally "chelate" copper.

It's all about balance. Since addressing her copper issues, my DD has become more stable. Less "Cybil" and more Even Steven. She's also less spacey.

If your kids are doing great, then it's probably not worth messing with. But if you see bi-polarish moods or difficult personality, then it's something that you can look into.

We are working w/ a biomed dr. He believes the copper will come down w/ the treatments he's prescribed when we get DS's methylation/sulfation back on track. We did see bipolarish behaviors before PANDAS treatment.

Hi Nicklemama,

May I ask what treatment you are doing for mythelation/sulfation? Are you doing anything to measure the results? My DS 10 has 2 copies of c677t and therefore is has very inefficient mythelation. He takes b12 and methylfolate as well as other supplements. It is such an critical bodily function and I wish I had more evidence it was working. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

The biomed dr has him on B12 shots, B6, methylfolate, alpha lipoic acid, a digestive enzyme and biocidin. He switched DS to a better multivitamin, added borage oil (Omega 6) to the things he was already taking before we started seeing the biomed dr..........vit C, Omega 3, vit E, vit D. I think that covers it. DS is taking augmentin prophylactically and Detox Support probiotic also. He's also on Claritin daily for allergies and a yeast free diet for a yeast sensitivity.

I would caution anyone that thinks about going out and buying these supplements to see a biomed dr for an evaluation first. These supplements are "prescribed" specifically for my DS and what he has an imbalance of. Every child is different.

He will start low dose Naltrexone in a few months, after he's been on the supplements for a while.

I am just curious here. I have been reading about being rh negative since I myself am and both of my children are. From what I have read it seems that rh - people have more copper in there blood and less iron. Is anyone here or their children rh negative.
