throat clearing intensified with azithromycin

My ds9 had a throat clearing tic, that has now become a coughing one. We went to the movies on Saturday, and the coughing thing started after he was laughing during the movie and drinking orange juice. He said that it "went down the wrong tube"... but he coughed throughout the movie. People were looking at him. Now....today, Sunday, he has this ongoing cough.

 

I don't know if this is just another tic, if it has something to do with being on antibiotics again (4th day), or because this kid came over last Saturday, who swore up and down that he wasn't sick, and ended up being sick, but I missed the signs: the kid said that it was too hot in the car, when nobody else found it too hot, and then he just wanted to sit on the sofa, and lie down on the sofa, and then call his dad to pick him up b/c he was tired....and this kid ended up vomiting just outside our house when his dad picked him up. His father nonchalantly said that his son was coughing all morning, and is coming down with something. The kid knows that I am big on not having sick kids over, so he was trying to convince his dad that he wasn't the one who was sick, it was his sister.

 

Anyways...I don't know.

 

My ds9 now has a throat clearing tic, but mostly this little cough that goes along with it. It is constant. He says that he feels like there is phlegm in his throat.

I'm sorry to hear. My DD had this not too long ago after a teeth cleaning. The nest day we started supplementing with a flouride tablet. It started of clearing, then hacking. We did a prednisone taper and discontinued the flouride tablets. And it stopped. I'm not sure which was the biggest helper in the stopping of it.

She was also on azithromycin and augmentin at the time.

Ds9 no longer presents with urinary frequency. He does dribble a bit one time per day now, but doesn't feel the need to urinate, like before. He no longer believes that his bladder will burst. He no longer fears that he swallowed things that he wasn't supposed to, like button batteries etc. That was a tough one for me. He was afraid of a lot of stuff. That is no longer the case. He doesn't talk about death and dying like before. He doesn't have this fear of being alone. The last time he displayed a bit of that was 5 days ago in the mall, when I had him sit on a stool waiting for me to pick up something for myself in the Thai rest. line. He worried that someone would kidnap him. No longer feels that way. He presents as free again. He is not moody like before...boy was it ever nuts for a while...although he now presents with stuff that he presented with before, like, feeling someone dejected or frustrated when we don't do something that he expected. During his pandas episode, he would explode with tears and loud cries in front of everyone, for long periods of time. That was odd behaviour for him.

 

So...he had a shortened course of antibiotics. Had a urinary tract infection that the doctor didn't treat because the antibiotic was one that he has an allergy to. Three tests taken three days apart. ...showed that he had enteroccoccus, and then the doctor did another test for UTI and it showed up negative. So, they didn't treat. Then ds9 was on a few courses of antibiotics. He also took advil for a number of days. Then he started this throat clearing tic, that wasn't that noticeable...or maybe it was. Then ds9 didn't take antibiotics for approx a week and a half, and then resumed antibiotics after one week and a half for pandas, and on the first day of the last course of azithromycin...he started this ongoing cough tic. The cough tic is really obvious. All of his pandas symptoms are gone....but he is now left with an ongoing throat clearing and throat coughing tic. His teachers have noticed it. The kids have noticed it. It is very obvious.

 

I am wondering...could this be yeast overgrowth? I only started giving probiotics during the last course of antibiotics, which by the way, was when the new throat cough started. What tests do I request to test for yeast overgrowth? What products have you found helpful?

 

What else could it be? Could it be that there is still some residual stuff left over, and maybe a switch from all of those times with azithromycin need to have clavul(augmentin) added to the mix?

 

What are your thoughts?

Why do you suppose the combo of abx worked? I have seen on other posts about using two types. Is it that zith is intracellular and is bactrim the same as amoxil or clavul (augmentin) where it is not intracellular so they compliment each other?
