Dr. B and Dr L said that all of the ear infections when our son was young (tubes and adnoid removal at 16 months) was probably really strep in the inner ear. And the diaper rash that would never go away was probably a strep rash. I googled it and saw pictures that looked just like his rashes. Wish I knew that 11 years ago. So complicated!

Wow...I didn't know about the ear thing and strep. All I know is that my son often gets itchy ears, and for years his original pediatrician would continually say that it was allergies. The ent he saw said that his hearing was normal, and everything was fine, even though he used to complain that his ears would pop. After a few courses of azithromycin, his ears stopped itching and popping...plus this ongoing cough and phlegm thing he had, also stopped. It was an eye opener for me. I figured that they missed something in the process. The azithromycin killed the bacteria that was there in the ear, the nose, the throat and the lungs. That was 2 years ago. Now, when he gets itchy ears, I see it as some kind of bacteria in his ears. Azithromycin will take it all away, but doctors are reluctant to prescribe, unless they see an "active infection" which by the way, my son never had in his ears, but they really bothered him. I suspect that his tubes are shaped funny or small or something. Since they can't see his tubes by looking at his ears, they don't know.

It was just intersting to hear that Drs B and L talked about strep in the inner ear! Interesting. Learning new stuff every day. That helps me see things from an even broader perspective. B)
