bulldog24 Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 I am trying to get everyone treated at same time. Only one I didnt ask for abx is for 7m old. I am under the impression kids dont USUALLY get strep til 2 years. But my life is always the worst case senario. do you think she should be treated? Since treating the dogs and cats my son is better. My ODD had a rage yesterday.
smartyjones Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 I am under the impression kids dont USUALLY get strep til 2 years. my pandas ds had known strep at 22 months of age. we only know that b/c my older son, age 4.5 at the time, had bizarre whitehead-like acne on his face on Easter monday. it dissipated during the day but never fully went away. the next morning, he woke up with it again. by the time i took him to the dr around noon, it was much dissipated. i asked about strep and the dr said, 'i really don't think it's strep, but we can do a rapid'. it was positive. he was feeling fine. they said they wouldn't culture younger ds b/c he was under 2. the next morning, he threw up. other than that, he was fine. he was also positive on the rapid. he went on abx, but, of course, we never took him back to check it was gone. i do remember we took a vacation still on the last few days of the abx. when we got back, i remember going to an event that he was very tired and looking sick at -- probably a week after ending abx. i didn't really think anything of it, just thought he was still recovering and he got over it. 2 and a 1/2 years later, he presented with 'sudden onset' pandas. his ASO was 898. of coure, we'll never know -- but i don't think he ever cleared that strep. so -- NO -- i don't believe that about under 2. of course, your is much younger, but i still don't beleive it!!
3boysmom Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) Dr. B and Dr L said that all of the ear infections when our son was young (tubes and adnoid removal at 16 months) was probably really strep in the inner ear. And the diaper rash that would never go away was probably a strep rash. I googled it and saw pictures that looked just like his rashes. Wish I knew that 11 years ago. So complicated! bulldog24 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 OMg. She has had a nasty diaper rash x3 d! Its better. She has a hoarse voice this am too. Looked un her throat with flashlight and depressor. Its a mess in there, very red and swollen. Off to the er (armed with dog culture and other kids info) I swear as God is my witness you are going to see me on cnn if They dont do something at er Or It is strep. I am losing it already......
bulldog24 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 Waiting for rapid test. Will send to lab too. Tonsils swollen So far they are nice. Well see when I ask for abx IF the test is neg
colleendonny Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Oh no, hope she doesn't! Are you going to SS? I brought DD5 there after her overnight symptoms and the MD on call never heard of PANDAS! My DD 9 months has a pretty yucky diaper rash right now too. I may go to our new pedi (PANDAS friendly!! ) tomorrow to have her bottom bottom swabbed. Let us know how it goes.
bulldog24 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 ss was ok. I was in no mood for bs. The rapid was neg, sending to lab. thankfully the doc had a brain and put her on amoxi. I am drinking a nice cold beer. I think I have earned it. the stress is too much. good luck colleen, curious to where you are going? lmk how the swab goes
bulldog24 Posted March 25, 2012 Author Report Posted March 25, 2012 I put some baking soda in her tub and her rash is better, the doc that saw us said if the culture comes back pos I should take her to the NIH
colleendonny Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 Oh, man. I hope it comes back negative. I'll PM you.
airial95 Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 My son's PANDAS started as a result of an impetigo infection (strep) when he was only 19 months old - so while I don't think it's common in kids under 2, it's not impossible. Hope its negative though!!!
bulldog24 Posted March 26, 2012 Author Report Posted March 26, 2012 The nurse in er said " we have seen strep in kids under 1" There goes my sanity
mama2alex Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Bulldog 24, I noticed in some of your recent posts you mentioned you are (or were) being treated for Lyme. Could your baby have it? Also, I've never bought the "kids under 2 don't get strep" thing - what, do they have superimmunity to it until they turn 2? It seems silly to me. I'm so sorry all your kids are sick.
EAMom Posted March 26, 2012 Report Posted March 26, 2012 Yeah, I wonder what the rational is for saying kids under 2 don't get strep?
bulldog24 Posted March 27, 2012 Author Report Posted March 27, 2012 Its possible we all have lyme. I treated aggressively while preg, zith and bicillin. Pcr of cord cord blood, placenta was neg for Lyme and babesia thru a good lab. she is too young to draw her blood. She will have my antibodies. My mommy gut (which is right 80% of time) Is that this is not lyme (yet) and its a strep issue The dog was pos for some kind of beta hemolytic strep and the baby was the only one not on abx. Lyme in my experience doesnt cause huge tonsils. (Bart might) so who knows really
AmySLP Posted March 28, 2012 Report Posted March 28, 2012 My pandas dtr had strep at 7 weeks, 3 months etc, etc until she turned four and then developed the ultimate strep infection that wouldn't go away and caused PANDAS. I do not believe that I had the antibodies to strep to pass on to her, as I had the same difficulty with frequent strep.
