I am sure you have tried Melatonin, but that is my one piece of advice. I had to sleep in the same bed as my preteen son for several years to get him to go to sleep. My heart is with you, as are my prayers.

I fought giving my son SSRI's for a long time because I didn't want him on any psych meds. Finally after he started asking me to get him some medicine to help him get better, I relented. He is now on Lexapro and doing much better. My other son had taken celexa and done well also, he has since been weaned off after several years of antibiotic therapy. I was hesitant to start the meds but we started at a low dose and increased slowly and are seeing good results. If she is really that miserable, I would do it. JMHO. Best of luck.

Have you tried NAC, magnesium, ibuprofen, and Epsom salts baths? Have you tested for Bartonella, KPU, and MTHFR gene?

Lilly,

When my son was in crisis and he couldn't sleep we used clonodine, ibuprofen for pain (likely to have headache if your not sleeping) and natural calm timed a few hours before bed. Clonodine is not an antipsychotic and is safe for children when prescribed by your ped or pandas dr. Clonodine sedated my son to give him some rest. We also gave ibuprofen 3 x's daily because clearly he was in pain, I slept with him and still do. we switched to 1 mg of melatonin after he stabilized. Occasionally in the early days of recovery I gave him benadryl and melatonin timed about an hour apart. FYI- I give all meds with food and water to protect stomach.

I know you see Dr.J, but maybe the abx combo is too much for your son, just something to consider. My son got better when we switched his abx to Azithromycin from Augmentin.

I pray your child finds some relief soon.

Tried so many drugs. Nothing helps only makes worse. I am with top specialists and so far nobody can figure it out. IVIG Next step.

I am talking severe OCD and agitation. Can't get near her and forget a bath! She's too wild and won't go near water. We tried Celexa, Luvox, as far as SSRi's go and had bad experience. She is on low dose of Prozac and its the first time she is not getting violent with a medication. I am wondering if its the first time that we have the antibiotics on board for the bartonella/lyme. We are working our way up on this stuff. BTW... What is "NAC" ?

What is "NAC" ?

N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) is an amino acid that increases intracellular glutathione at the cellular level. (Glutathione is one of the body's most important natural antioxidants and detoxifiers.)

NAC helps to boost the immune system, chelate heavy metals, break up mucus, and is a glutamate modulator that that can be effective for addictions and obsessive/compulsive behaviors.

When taking NAC it is recommended that you take 2-3x as much vitamin C at the same time. Dosage is based on weight. My DD16 takes 1200 mg bid of NAC and 2500 mg bid of vitamin C. Like any supplement it is recommended that you start with low dose and titrate slowly.
