Has anyone had their child on Abilify? Psychiatrist suggested this to help calm the vocal & physical tics. My husband & I are not totally on board with this as she is on day 10 of her 1st round of antibiotics & though the tics have become more frequent --- her mood & OCD/panic is improving a smidge every day! :) What to do?? Don't like the thought of "antipsychotic" medication -- although Psychiatrist assured me at such a tiny dose (1.25mg) it would just calm the physical "urges."

BTW, I must celebrate that DD big brown eyes are able to look more & more "at" us instead of "thru" us!! And she is smiling more every day too! And she is on board with eating more protein (BMI has taken a hit as she has a fear of being fat:(

Thanks for your thought on this!!

I'd give her more time. If she showing signs of improving in several areas AND particularly if the tics are not bothering HER.Tics can often be more bothersome to other people around them than to the person that is experiencing them. From my son's history and perspective. His vocal tics have always driven me far more crazy than they bothered him. Sometimes adding new meds to mix can muddy picture on child that is improving "on their own."

Just my opinion...

When my dd was 7 (now 12, oiye) she was on Abilify in 2nd grade. Was also on very low dose, as the psych put it "enough for a goldfish."

Well, 10 days into it, she dropped to the floor upon standing (syncope) two days in a row. We took her off, had a neuro consult with a negative EEG and concluded it was the Abilify. She wasn't taking it for tics, just overall neuro mess; off the walls ADHD, OCD, all of it. It did calm her, but cognitive blunting was also a problem. I would also give it more time if you can.

Our DS took Abilify very briefly for much the same reason as JAG's DD. He did not develop the same issues due to it, but it was still something of a disaster. Even at a very low dose (0.5 mg.), it seemed to increase his negative behaviors rather than help abate them. :(

Ah thank you!! Going to hold off for now for sure!

She actually had the best day she has had in MONTHS!!!

Still probably just 1% back to the DD we knew but I will take it!!

To see her smile & interact again is priceless...

Yeah, I agree with those that say stay clear of abilify, esp. so early in the game. If you see improvement, you won't know if it's from the abilify or the abs.

If you have problems, you won't know if it's the PANDAS or the abilify.

Plus, (not sure about abilify) some of these psych. drugs can be hard to wean off of once you start.

I'm glad you dd is doing better! :)
