colleendonny Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 Hi , My 4 dd came down with sudden tics and off intrusive thoughts suddenly on October 19th. We met with a great neuroligist ay children's hospital in waltham MA. He thinks it may be PANS. We are doing and MRI tomorrow night and a spinal tap on Friday. Spinal tap is to check for.NMDA receptor encephalitis. I'm wondering, has anyone ever tested for Lyme co infections with spinal fluid?
eljomom Posted November 15, 2011 Report Posted November 15, 2011 I don't know about the spinal tap for Lyme. I have heard of it being done, but not always being "accurate," which I think goes for any type of Lyme testing anymore. I've never heard of doing this (spinal tap for NMDA receptors) for PANS......can you enlighten me?
PhillyPA Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 Yes, my son has been tested for Lyme via a spinal tap. He has also been tested for NMDA. I am very familiar with it. It seems like you have a great neurologist in Boston. I am shocked. You can PM me if you have any questions. I have talked about NMDA at great lengths on this forum.
colleendonny Posted November 16, 2011 Author Report Posted November 16, 2011 Eljomom- the spinal tap isn't for the PANS, basically just the NMDA encephalitis. PhillyP I'm going to pm you.
lmkmip67 Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 May I ask who you are seeing? We are in MA and thought of seeing a neurologist and a PANDAS friendly one would be great. You can PM me the name if you like. Thanks so much!
