Andy
Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid is said by DAN doctors to rid the body of ammonia which is the by product of yeast in the gut. When dealing with yeast and Fungus one should realize that they may also have delayed food allegies from it as well as holes in their intestinal lining from feelers of the yeast poking at it which leads to not fully digested food entering the body as well as waste from the yeast which adds to the poisoning of the body. Two main causes of yeast and fungus build up in the gut is one a result from mercury poisoning and two, unreleated, two much anti-biotics which killed good bacteria in the body and left a void for bad bacteria/yeast to fill. I for one believe that there are TS suffers who may have had the TS induced from either mercury in the vaccination shots used up till a few years ago or from damage from overuse or oversensitivity to anti-biotics as a child with a developing gut. There are other potential causes of TS but I am just speaking of gut issues.
kim
Andy, I'm glad you brought this up. I wanted to ask you if your son's ammonia levels were ever tested through standard lab testing or always with an OAT test. My youngest son was one pt. below the reference range for ammonia. Dr. Shaw has said that you need to test orotic acid, as ammonia levels are too unstable. I have one test with a fairly high marker for yeast, yet his ammonia level was low. What do you make of that? Food IgG showed highest sensitivities to peanut and cow's milk. We have removed peanut butter and we're doing enzymes. His dark circles are gone for the first time in many years. However, as usual I'm not sure if it's the vitamins, the probiotic, zinc or what, that has made the difference. Bed wetting is also resolved. Any thoughts? Guest
Thanks Andy, I think I will get some Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid next time for sure when I order supplements. I had high ammonia levels or atleast my amino acids test pointed that way. Does your son take Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid? Carolyn
Andy
Thanks Andy, I think I will get some Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid next time for sure when I order supplements. I had high ammonia levels or atleast my amino acids test pointed that way. Does your son take Alpha-Ketoglutaric Acid? Carolyn My son takes three caps a day. Kirkland is the brand that we use but I am sure there are other brands that are just as good. Kim, I would have to look it up for cross referencing. He takes so many tests, including the Oats, that it bleeds the wallet but since he is totally trusting us to do what is best for him, we may over test to make sure that everything is based upon real science. I am glad that the bed wetting issue was resolve. That was one of the many things that cleared up with our kid as well. As for the high yeast low ammonia, I can't figure that one out unless he had a surge of yeast at one point but it returned to acceptable levels with just treating with probiotics and perhaps less sugar and fruit in the diet or the yeast is a new condition inwhich the ammonia levels will build up over time. But without being a doctor this is just talk to think about that is based upon information that I gleamed off of others.
matt
Are there any other known reasons for supplementing additional Alpha-Ketoglutarate? The ION panel we ran recommended supplementing with 700 mgs of this but the test didn't measure ammonia. I should probably just call and ask the lab but since the topic popped up I thought I'd go ahead and see if anyone here knew of other uses. kim
Matt, If you do a google search of Alpha-Ketoglutarate, you can find quite a bit of information, and maybe narrow down the questions to ask the lab/Dr. http://www.nutriline.org/akg.htm INTRODUCTION Ornithine alpha-ketoglutarate (OKG), a nutritional supplement, has gained a great deal of attention in both the scientific and athletic communities for its anabolic and anti-catabolic properties. Supplement manufacturers and distributors have described OKG as an ergogenic aid similar to the anabolic-androgenic steroids. OKG is an ionic salt that contains two molecules of ornithine and one molecule of alpha-ketoglutarate. Ornithine, an amino acid, is required for the normal functioning of the urea cycle, where ammonia is trapped to form urea. Alpha-ketoglutarate is the carbon skeleton of the amino acid glutamate. This amino acid analogue is an intermediate in the citrate (Kreb's) cycle and plays an essential role in a variety of transamination reactions (1). OKG has demonstrated marked anabolic and anti-catabolic effects in healthy persons and individuals that have sustained trauma (2-4). The compound stimulates the release of insulin and growth hormone while raising levels of amino acids and their metabolites, presumably making them available for protein synthesis. Concurrently, OKG reduces the catabolic markers of protein degradation (5-6). Although OKG's mechanism of action is poorly understood, it is believed that the anabolic actions of insulin and growth hormone contribute to the supplement's influence on protein metabolism (5-6). The protein metabolism part of this really interests me, as my youngest really seems to avoid the protein foods.
