Dr B's office said no to advance bloodwork -advice

Hi,

 

Have appt w dr b on dec 12. Woman named Joanne was very kind, but said he will not give orders for lab work until she's seen by him first. Know I've read on here that others have gotten lab work prior to first visit. Thoughts?

 

Dd8 in bad shape w tics, OCD, odd. Were three and a half hours away and have a 6 and 3 year old at home. Both missing work to go, and he doesn't take Harvard pilgrim HMO. Just want to make the most of the appointment and not waste any more time or dollars trying to relieve her symptoms.

This is just my opinion, but I think it is a legal issue which some doctors take seriously and others don't. I have had doctor's order labs without seeing my son and others that wouldn't even consider it, saying it was illegal. Perhaps too, different states have different laws. I think you may find that your doctor won't budge on this. He will probably prescribe antibiotics without seeming the bloodwork though--at least a short course until the bloodwork is back. Also, you can can call every day or so, asking if they have a cancellation.
